David R. Van Valkenburg, MBA, has been Inducted into the Prestigious Marquis Who's Who Biographical Registry



    GREENWOOD VILLAGE, CO, February 27, 2024 /24-7PressRelease/ -- David R. Van Valkenburg, MBA, has been inducted into Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

After a successful career in cable telecommunications companies, Mr. Van Valkenburg retired from executive management in 2000. Since then, he has been a proven leader in corporate governance by serving on the governing Boards of three (3) distinctly different entities: seventeen (17) public and private corporations, three (3) non-profit, charitable organizations, and two (2) higher education institutions.

Mr. Van Valkenburg began his corporate career as a financial analyst with Investors Diversified Services Inc. in 1969 before accepting the appointments successively as manager, director and Vice President of American Television and Communications Corporation in 1973, where he excelled through 1980. He subsequently became Executive Vice President of the United Cable Television Corporation in 1980. Then in 1982 he joined Cox Communications, as the Executive Vice President from 1982 to 1983 and the firm's President through 1985.

An opportunity to transition to Paragon Communications Corporation emerged in 1986, wherein he accepted the role as President. He continued his telecommunications career with Cablevision Industries Inc., from 1989 to 1990 and M. L. Media Partners from 1990 through 1994, both as President. Mr. Van Valkenburg in 1994 became Executive Vice President of MediaOne Group Inc. From 1997 through 1999 he undertook the responsibility as the Chief Executive Officer and Chief Operating Officer of Telewest PLC (UK). He returned to MediaOne Group Inc. as Executive Vice President from 1999 to 2000.

In addition to his executive roles in the Cable Telecommunications industry, Mr. Van Valkenburg has served on the Boards of Directors of the National Cable Telecommunications Association (NCTA), the Cable-Satellite Television Affairs Network (C-SPAN), the Cable Television Administrative Society (CTAM), and Syndeo Institute at the Cable Center, In recognition of his many years of telecommunications companies' executive management, he was inducted into the Cable Hall of Fame in 2014 and honored with the William Bresnan Ethics in Business Award in 2023.

Numerous opportunities as an independent director also define Mr. Van Valkenburg's professional profile, including his service in that role at Harmonic Inc. from 2001 to 2012. Since 2008, he has served in this capacity at Melaleuca Inc. Mr. Van Valkenburg has had the unique opportunity to serve on the Board of Directors of the publicly traded Russian telecommunications company: Moscow CableCom Corporation from 2005 to 2007.

Mr. Van Valkenburg served as a member of the Boards of Trustees of Northwestern College (IA) for eight (8) years and for nine (9) years of Malone University (OH), from which he earned his Bachelor of Arts. Notably, Mr. Van Valkenburg prioritizes his membership in the Evangelical Presbyterian Church, for which he served as the Chairman of the Board of Directors of EPC Benefit Resources Inc. from 2011 through 2018.

Mr. Van Valkenburg brings exceptional academic credentials to his varied roles, including a Bachelor of Arts from Malone University and a Master of Science in radiation biophysics from the University of Kansas. He also proudly holds a Master of Business Administration in finance from the prestigious Harvard University.

Mr. Van Valkenburg attributes his success to an ability to forge positive relationships as well as perseverance and attention to detail. He also cites the productive influence of an elementary school teacher, Mina Sisson, and Monroe Rifkin, who was an important mentor in the early stages of his career. Mr. Van Valkenburg additionally credits Bob Wright who was instrumental in recruiting him to Cox Communications in 1982.

Mr. Van Valkenburg has been married to Doris (Bowers) Van Valkenburg over fifty-nine (59) years. They have two (2) adult children and three (3) grandchildren.
