During the early stages of his career, Mr. Peterson gained valuable expertise in executive positions with Blue Ridge Habitat for Humanity and Project HOPE. A dedicated countryman, he also served as an active duty medical operations officer in the U.S. Army between 1995 and 2004. Before starting his professional journey, he earned a Bachelor of Science in biology from the University of Miami. Subsequently, Mr. Peterson received a Master of Arts in international studies from Yonsei University, a certificate of completion in education for philanthropy professionals from the Stanford Center on Philanthropy and Civil Society, and a project management certification from Cornell University.
Alongside his work, Mr. Peterson is a board member of the regional community action agency, People Incorporated, and a member of the Head Start Policy Council for Southwest Virginia/Northern Shenandoah Valley. While his career has been filled with numerous highlights, he takes the most pride in his years working in some of the most challenging parts of the world supporting humanitarian outreach efforts and responding to global natural disasters, such as Haiti in 2010 and Japan's tsunami in 2011. The cornerstone of his success lies in his perseverance and determination to get any job done – and done well. Looking toward the future, Mr. Peterson aims to one day return to international development and global health work, bringing to bear all of his past experience in operations, project management, community building, and education to make the world a just a little bit better.
