CHICAGO, IL, March 01, 2024 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Saroja Bharati, MD, adjunct professor of pathology and consultant in cardiac pathology with Rush University Medical Center, was selected by Marquis Who's Who for a prominent feature in the East Chicago suburbs regional edition of Fortune magazine.
Distinguished as one of the world's leading authorities in pathology of congenital heart disease and the conduction system of the heart, Dr. Saroja Bharati excelled as director of cardiac pathology at the Advocate Children's Hospital in Oak Lawn, Illinois, the largest health care system in the state, from 1988 until retiring in 2020. Prior, she offered her expertise at the Deborah Heart and Lung Center, Browns Mills, New Jersey, and the Hektoen Institute of Medicine, Chicago, Illinois.
A dedicated educator, Dr. Bharati joined the Rush University Medical Center in 1975, going on to teach as an assistant and associate professor in pathology and pediatrics, as well as professor of pathology from 1982 to present. Likewise, she taught at several universities and medical institutions, including the University of Chicago, the University of Illinois and the University of Houston in Texas, as well as at Ivy Leagues such as Harvard, Yale, Columbia and Cornell, among others.
Dr. Bharati is a fellow of the American College of Cardiology, the American Heart Association and the Heart Rhythm Society. She has served on continuing medical education committees for many years and was the third woman president of the Chicago Medical Society from 2007 to 2008.
As a senior contributing author she has written three original books, "Cardiac Surgery and the Conduction System" in 1983 and 1992 and "Cardiac Conduction System in Unexplained Sudden Death" in 1990, as well as volumes I and II of "Pathology of Congenital Heart Disease: A Personal Experience with More Than 6,300 Congenitally Malformed Hearts" in 1996. Since 1971, she presented yearly "Heart Exhibits" at the American Heart Association and the American College of Cardiology meetings.
Attaining a Doctor of Medicine from Madras University in India with an A+ in medicine and surgery, she finished her final years of training in medicine, with a focus in cardiology, at Mount Sinai Hospital in Miami Beach, Florida. She also completed a fellowship in cardiology at Miami Heart Institute in Miami Beach, Florida, as well as a residency in cardiology at the Michael Reese Hospital, Chicago IL.
In her illustrious career, Dr. Bharati was the recipient of a Woman in Science Award from the American Medical Women's Association in 2004. She also received the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award in 2019.
