Ms. Birkmire's longevity working for advertising agencies, public relations firms, industrial organizations, and various nonprofit organizations began in 1996. To prepare for her career, Ms. Birkmire received an associate degree in broadcast journalism from Bauder College in Florida. Her education also includes certifications in Illustration from the University of Texas-Arlington, Digital Branding and Marketing Communications from Southern Methodist University, Public Relations Strategy from Cornell University, and a Lean Six Sigma green belt.
Apart from her full-time career endeavors, Ms. Birkmire has been the owner and Kuma Hula (Master Teacher) of Ka Pa Hula O Manulani since 2008. Located in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, her traditional cultural school teaches Hawaiian dance, language, history, handmade crafting, and more in an educational setting. The school has also become recognized for its active involvement in city and community efforts and its dedication to giving back and sharing the beauty of the Hawaiian culture at elementary schools, retirement homes, cultural festivals, and team-building events organized by branches of the military.
Ms. Birkmire is civically active, volunteering with the Special Olympics, Children's Health, the Susan G. Komen organization, the Boys & Girls Clubs of America, and the North Texas Food Bank. She is also an angel investor with The Salvation Army, a cultural representative with the DFW International Community Alliance, an Ocean Conservancy donor, and a John R. Good Elementary School mentor. She sits on the board as President and is a Hoewa'a Dallas Outrigger Canoe Club member. As part of her ongoing commitments in her field, Ms. Birkmire is a member of the Marketing Association of America, the Public Relations Society of America, and the Association for Women in Communications.
