Susan Matorin, certified as a social worker in the State of New York, celebrates five decades of excellence in her field.

    NEW YORK, NY, March 04, 2024 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Susan Matorin, MS, LCSW, ACSW, senior lecturer of social work in psychiatry with Weill Cornell College of Medicine, was selected by Marquis Who's Who for a prominent feature in the New York City regional edition of Forbes magazine.

Susan Matorin, certified as a social worker in the State of New York, celebrates five decades of excellence in her field. A senior lecturer of social work in psychiatry at Weill Cornell College of Medicine, she divides her time between a clinical practice in ambulatory care for individuals with serious behavioral health disorders and a private practice for individuals, couples and families. She has taught behavioral health and family practice issues nationally to medical social workers and psychiatric trainees, and to graduate social work students as an adjunct associate professor at Columbia School of Social Work.

Ms. Matorin joined Weill Cornell to lead the social work department and direct student training from 1981 to 1997 from administrative positions in social work at the New York State Psychiatric Institute and Presbyterian Hospital/Columbia.

Ms. Matorin's many presentations include, "Getting Better Health Care for Your Mind and Body," at Fountainhouse and "Communication Technology: Looking Ahead" for the Helen Rehr Center for which she served as chair. She also serves on the board of the Society of Social Work Leaders in Health Care, metropolitan chapter. Ms. Matorin is a fellow of the American Orthopsychiatry Association and chairs the Lucille Austin lectureship at Columbia Social Work School, a university-wide event that includes such topics as children and immigration and the assault on women's reproductive rights.

Ms. Matorin authored a chapter on the corporatization of health care, papers on adolescent family treatment, health care chaplaincy issues, and numerous letters to the editor in social work journals, and in The New York Times on mental health, family issues and stigma. She can be seen on the NASW marketing video, "On Any Given Day, Help Starts Here."

Ms. Matorin earned a Bachelor of Arts at Vassar College in 1964 and further prepared for her career by attaining a Master of Science from the Columbia University School of Social Work, where she received the Dean's Award.

Ms. Matorin was honored with the 2006 Hyman J. Weiner Award from the Society for Social Work Leaders in Health Care, and will receive the Ellen Perlman Simon Award for mentorship at the national meetings in October 2021. She earned the Centennial Award in 1998 and in 1989, the Distinguished Service Medal from Columbia University.
