ATHENS, GA, March 05, 2024 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Julia Davis Rhodes, RN, retired team leader of neurosurgery from Athens Regional Medical Center, was selected by Marquis Who's Who for a prominent feature in the Georgia regional edition of Vogue magazine.
A preeminent figure in the field of nursing, Julia Davis Rhodes exemplified excellence in her career, which spanned more than four decades. Serving at the Athens Regional Medical Center in Athens, Georgia, from 1965 until her retirement in 2003, she specialized in neurosurgical nursing. Over the course of her career, Ms. Rhodes excelled in a myriad of positions, including as a team leader of neurosurgery, a registered nurse and a surgical assistant of general and obstetric surgery. As part of her routine responsibilities, Ms. Rhodes assisted physicians in operating rooms and maintained the status of the medical center's equipment and ordered supplies. Earlier in her career, she was an operating room nurse at Piedmont Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia, from 1964 to 1965.
In her post-retirement years, Ms. Rhodes has continued to serve her community as a part-time nurse since 2006, treating and caring for six patients with Alzheimer's disease. Additionally, she has remained affiliated with several charitable endeavors, such as organizations that support animal rights and veterans and the Beech Haven Baptist Church. Hailing from humble beginnings, Ms. Rhodes emphasizes that her successful career was born from the influence of her mother, who inspired her to uphold a diligent work ethic. Likewise, she credits the influence of her husband, who was always a staunch supporter of all her endeavors.
In the coming years, Ms. Rhodes intends to continue living a long, healthy life while concurrently serving her church and community in a civic capacity. Although she has many career achievements to her credit, she is particularly proud of achieving her lifelong dream of becoming a surgical nurse. To this end, she earned the affectionate nickname "The General" in the operating room in light of her esteemed efforts and selfless acts of service. She lives by the mantra, "No matter where you come from, you can accomplish something great."
Ms. Rhodes received a diploma in nursing from Piedmont Hospital in 1964, where she would later work as an operating room nurse. She subsequently became certified as a registered nurse in 1965.
