His responsibilities also include ensuring the quality of services offered and continually adapting the program to align with new research findings.
He has been instrumental in shaping the treatment landscape for sexually violent persons within the state's jurisdiction. Dr. Jumper's leadership and expertise have also been pivotal in developing effective treatment protocols and managing the complex dynamics of a secure treatment environment.
Besides treating patients, Dr. Jumper has devoted time to research. Consequently, he has published approximately a dozen peer-reviewed journal articles and has garnered over 500 citations. He has also contributed chapters to several books in the field. Dr. Jumper has also spoken publicly at various professional conferences. Moreover, Dr. Jumper has hired, trained, and provided mentorship to over 150 treatment providers who specialize in sex offense treatment.
In preparation for his career, Dr. Jumper achieved an undergraduate degree in music therapy from DePaul University in 1986, a Master of Arts from Loyola University of Chicago in 1992, and a Doctor of Philosophy in counseling psychology from the University of North Dakota in 1998. Adding to his education, he received credentials as a licensed psychologist, sex offender evaluator, and sex offender treatment provider through the State of Illinois.
Dr. Jumper's contributions extend beyond his primary duties at work. He is best known for his exceptional contributions to the Association for the Treatment and Prevention of Sexual Abuse (ATSA), where he is recognized as an elected fellow, past president, and former Treasurer and Secretary of the board of directors. Since being affiliated with the organization, he has played a vital role in its rebranding to reflect its mission in prevention and advocacy. Additionally, Dr. Jumper has been active as a professional member, past president, and former board of directors officer of the Sex Offender Civil Commitment Programs Network and as a member of the National Organization for the Treatment of Abusers and the American Psychological Association.
Dedicated to helping change the cultural values around sexual violence and trauma, Dr. Jumper plans to continue working in the field for several more years before retiring. He hopes to leave a legacy through careful preparation for the future leadership of his initiatives.
