Mr. Williamson has established a distinguished career in fire services and emergency response, currently serving concurrently as the fire chief for the Municipality of Lakeshore Fire Department since 2005 and the Municipality of Leamington Fire Services since May 2023. In this role, he oversees five fire stations with approximately 100 staff members in Lakeshore and one station with approximately 33 staff members in Leamington. Chief Williamson's responsibilities include emergency planning for Lakeshore and managing, directing, and overseeing all fire service divisions. Additionally, he acts as the alternate provincial fire coordinator for the Essex County region.
This role further exemplifies his commitment to public safety and ability to effectively lead multiple teams. Moreover, Mr. Williamson has dedicated himself in the recent past to teaching as a part-time professor at a local community college.
Mr. Williamson's fire career began in 1986 as a volunteer firefighter, where he worked his way through the ranks to become the youngest volunteer deputy fire chief in the region. One of his most notable achievements throughout his tenure started in 2003 with Lakeshore. He successfully unified five separate municipal fire departments into a cohesive fire service despite three previous chiefs departing due to the workload and municipal challenges. During an earlier stage of his career, Mr. Williamson was employed by a natural gas utilities company and a food manufacturer, where his hard work and dedication were recognized with three separate promotions within each employer.
Chief Williamson has contributed thousands of additional hours to Lakeshore as a dedicated leader. This commitment reflects years spent balancing full-time work with volunteer firefighting duties before transitioning fully into a fire service career.
Mr. Williamson's academic background includes an Electronic Engineering Technician degree from Fanshawe College in 1982. Well-qualified in his industry, he received credentials as a certified firefighter, fire service training officer, fire inspector, fire investigator, and, among other designations, certified emergency management professional. Mr. Williamson remains active professionally as a member of the Ontario Association of Fire Chiefs and the National Fire Protection Association. Mr. Williamson is 1 of 29 chief fire officers in Ontario and 1 of 163 chief officers in Canada with the Executive Chief Fire Officer designation through the Canadian Association of Fire Chiefs.
