Leveraging more than three decades of excellence in developing control systems and applying technology to real world situations, Mr. Pletta has earned distinction as a Senior Staff Electrical Engineer with Ryvid Inc. Since 2008, he has focused his efforts on writing software, sometimes from scratch, to control electric vehicles, plug-in hybrids, and – more recently – electric motorcycles. In his role, he routinely collaborates with various specialists to resolve emergent issues. Inheriting a passion for vehicles from his father, he found a niche in developing control systems. He started with reducing emissions from gasoline driven vehicles, without sacrificing drivability, and transferred his knowledge to electric vehicles and plug-in hybrids, consequently making the technology more robust and furthering its' integration into society.
Before his present role, Mr. Pletta began his career as a Scientific Programmer for Morton Thiokol in 1988 working to improve manufacturing processes. He later became an Advanced Systems Engineer for GM/Electronic Data Systems in 1990. In 1995, he followed in his father's footsteps and started working as a Powertrain Product Development Engineer for Chrysler LLC. After 12 years, he saw the important emergence of new hybrid and electric vehicle technologies and moved to Southern California in 2008. After relocating, Mr. Pletta became a Senior Hybrid Powertrain Systems Engineer for Quantum Technologies and started working on the original Fisker Karma series hybrid vehicle. He later transitioned into roles as a Senior System Integration Software Engineer at CODA Automotive, Inc. in 2011 and Principal Engineer for the Toyota Motor Corporation from 2012 through 2017. He spent two of these five years living in Japan and working at Toyota's International Headquarters in Toyota City. After returning to the United States, Mr. Pletta joined Divergent 3D in 2018 as a Senior Electric Vehicle Powertrain Engineer. In this role, he focused on developing model-based controls for the Czinger 21C hyper sports car and, in 2019, was promoted to Manager of Powertrain Control Systems. Mr. Pletta served as a Powertrain Controls Engineer for Canoo in 2020 and transitioned into the role of Senior Principal Engineer with Our Next Energy in 2022. While at Our Next Energy, he developed new battery power transferring technology to allow the blending of cells with different chemistries into a single battery pack. In 2023, Mr. Pletta became Senior Engineer for Propulsion with Faraday Future, where he focused on improving drivability and implementation of the popular "one pedal" driving and the vehicle's "Hyper Performance" modes.
Prior to embarking on his professional journey, Mr. Pletta completed a "2 in 5" program to earn Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering and Bachelor of Science in Mathematics and Computer Science degrees from Lawrence Technological University in 1987. He subsequently attained a Master of Business Administration from Wayne State University in 1992 and a Master of Science in Electrical Engineering from the University of Michigan-Dearborn in 1998.
Looking to the future, Mr. Pletta intends to bring enhanced performance to the control systems for Ryvid Inc. vehicles. He is determined to make this project a success and hopes to see his aspiration come to fruition in the upcoming years. Additionally, Mr. Pletta continues to develop his professional network and recently established a partnership with the owner of an electric vehicle conversion company in Huntington Beach, CA to support their recent entry in the annual Las Vegas SEMA show. He looks forward to his continued collaboration with industry partners and the opportunity to produce vehicles which exceed customer's expectations in terms of quality, reliability and smile making performance.
