BLOOMSBURG, PA, March 19, 2024 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Barry L. Jackson, PhD, has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Dr. Jackson is professor and director emeritus of the Drug, Alcohol, and Wellness Network of Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania where he taught from 1990 to 2011. During his tenure, he created and managed a clinic for addictions intervention and the prevention of drug, alcohol, and tobacco use and risky sexual behavior among university students. Notably, the clinic's prevention services were delivered by student employees and volunteers who collaborated with area middle school, high school, and university students. Dr. Jackson also treated approximately 500 university students annually through various programs. During this period, he served as a Visting Professor with the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board.
As a Fulbright Senior Scholar, Specialist in Addictions, Dr. Jackson was invited to lecture at the University of Malta, to deliver the Romanian Air Force Academy Commencement Address, and serve as Senior Honorary Research Fellow in the Department of Primary Care and General Practice, Otago University Medical School in New Zealand. He also worked with the Eisenhower Foundation as a delegate for a commission on counseling in Viet Nam and Cambodia. The National Board of Certified Counselors, International Division included him in a delegation to Malawi, in Africa to serve in a similar role.
Earlier in his career Dr. Jackson taught psychology and counseling in graduate schools in both Germany and Turkey and was Vice President for Student Services at a small liberal arts college in Massachusetts.
In preparation for his career, Dr. Jackson earned his bachelor's degree in philosophy and religion from Susquehanna University in 1969, a master's degree in student personnel services in higher education from Syracuse University and a Doctor of Philosophy in counseling and human development from the University of Georgia in 1975.
His work in the field of addictions earned him the William J. Schofield III Award for Service from the Pennsylvania Department of Health, two State Governor's Awards for Service, and Recognition awards from the Pennsylvania State Senate and the United States Senate. His work also resulted in two invitations to present at Oxford University in England.
In October of 2023, Dr. Jackson retired from his role as Vice President and Professor of the Osteo Re School of Osteopathic Medicine in Bucharest, Romania. He remains active in research and publication in various disciplines and continues to give workshops and lectures.
