Dr. Goulos has established a distinguished career in law enforcement and academia that spans over 28 years. Affiliated with the Cook County Sheriff's Department in Illinois since 1997, he has served an instrumental role as a deputy sheriff and K9 unit officer, demonstrating his dedication to public service. Additionally, Dr. Goulos became a visiting assistant professor at the University of Saint Francis in 2023, where he has been instrumental in redesigning the curriculum and developing a criminal justice laboratory.
Aside from his tenured experience with the Cook County Sheriff's Department, Dr. Goulos was a Grundy County Sheriff's Office correctional officer between 1997 and 1998. He has also enjoyed a substantial tenure in higher education, previously aligned with National Louis University as a professional adjunct lecturer and adjunct faculty council from 2022 to 2023 and as an adjunct professor between 2019 to 2023. Dr. Goulos previously shared his expertise as an adjunct faculty member at Aurora University from 2022 to 2023 and as an adjunct professor in law enforcement administration and director of graduate admissions for the law enforcement division at Robert Morris University in Chicago from 2012 to 2015 and from 2012 to 2016, respectively. Moreover, he garnered success as a visiting lecturer in the Adler School of Professional Psychology at the Chicago Police Academy in 2012.
In April 2024, Dr. Goulos presented "The Restorative Justice Resilient through the Lens of Resilient Leadership," showcasing his thought leadership in criminal justice reform and leadership studies at Yale University's 20th Annual Bouchet Conference. His academic prowess was also recognized when he assisted in the research of "Analyzing Body-Worn Camera Footage Using an Objective Instrument Where Police Officers are Post or Pre-Certified Under CIT." Aside from his work-related efforts, Dr. Goulos is committed to serving the community by hosting guest lectures and engaging in community service. He is also actively involved in supporting anti-human trafficking through a university club.
In preparation for his career, Dr. Goulos received a bachelor's degree in administration of criminal justice, summa cum laude, from Mountain State University in 2008. He also earned a master's degree in forensic psychology from The Chicago School in 2011, a second master's degree in business and corporate governance law from Loyola University Chicago in 2014, and a Doctor of Philosophy in organizational leadership from The Chicago School in 2019, where he also completed certificates in preparing future professional faculty and teaching online pedagogy and standards in 2017.
Adding to his professional contributions, Dr. Goulos is active as a member of the Academy of Criminal Justice Sciences, Alpha Phi Sigma, and the Midwestern Criminal Justice Association. He attributes much of his success to his perseverance. This tenacity is reflected in his achievements, which include a Life-Saving Award in 2017 and the Edward A. Boucher Award from Yale University that same year.
