Dr. Mahendroo was part of several significant and impressive clinical Ancillary projects in the last five years.
He was the Project Director at Tempus Labs in Chicago, IL, where he directed the implementation of Epic's Orders and Results Anywhere platform, creating a hub and spoke model to enable hospitals to send genomic testing to Tempus. During his time at the City of Hope National Center, he managed the implementation of Metasystems, an automated microscopy spot counting imaging system that incorporates AI to the Chromosome analysis platform for molecular pathology, as well as an Epic's Bone Marrow Transplant feature set, he also set up the IT infrastructure for a research pathology lab, and implemented Imaging systems for the acquisition of 3 Cancer Treatment Centers of America in 3 different time zones. He managed the Lab IT divesture for Oklahoma University Medical Center and transitioned the Lab hardware and instruments to a new network.
At Northwestern Medicine in Chicago, he designed and managed the strategy for their Epic Beaker Technical Dress Rehearsal (TDR) and Cutover for the main hospital and fifteen outpatient locations.
During his 5 years tenure at Mount Sinai Health System in the greater NYC area between 2016 and 2021, he held several important roles in the information technology and laboratory sphere.
Most notably, he delivered onsite, amid the Covid Epidemic, a Sunquest LIS Merger project, implemented the Ceribell Point of Care Rapid Response EEG technology, invaluable for Epilepsy testing during COVID, and managed the rollout of a Smart Neuroscience ICU Moberg application to create a state-of-the-art Neuro ICU rooms using Sony PTZ cameras for remote monitoring of epilepsy patients, re-purposed for remote patient monitoring during Covid enabling the ICU nurses to avoid direct patient contact. He also managed the delivery of the AI-Enabled Digital Pathology Project and integrated testing for the Epic Ambulatory module rollout, impacting over 500 MDs and 75+ clinics, including Article 28 clinics.
During his role as Epic Technical Director, he managed the technical team that supports the backbone of the Epic EMR infrastructure. Some of his accomplishments included being appointed Sr. IT Project Manager for the sale of all of Mount Sinai's Outreach lab testing business to LabCorp. That included 625 ambulatory clinics on various systems, and managing the technical dress rehearsal project for two hospital go-live and EMR readiness of all workstations and hardware.
Early in his career, between 2009 to 2016, Dr. Mahendroo served in many pivotal roles. One of his noteworthy engagements is the IT Clinical Genomics Service project at Stanford Healthcare, Palo Alto CA, setting up a multi-vendor infrastructure for next-generation gene sequencing genomic testing, onboarding Google as a preferred vendor, implementing a HIPAA-compliant IT infrastructure for molecular pathology cancer genomics, with predictive analytics and software matching cancer patients with clinical trials. He also managed the Stanford blood center acquisition IT tasks, Blood Track Emerge implementation, and the blood bank SafeTrace Tx upgrade. Also noteworthy, while at Cleveland Clinic Foundation, he managed the project that received the CIO Recognition Award, the Electronic Signature for Informed Consent deployment of 5000 electronic signature pads. He worked on the Health Information Exchange development, coordinated Health Information Exchange HIE and NwHIN strategy as a part of Meaningful Use program. As Sr. IT project manager at Advanced Radiology Services STARS in Grand Rapids MI, he implemented a Distributed Radiology InteleRad PACS for a multi-site integration for over 100 physicians, the largest Radiologist group practice in the Western Michigan area. Other significant engagements during that period included a Meditech Emergency Department Module implementation for two St. Joseph's Health System community hospitals in Orange County, CA, Eureka and Redwood Memorial Hospitals. At Atlantic Health System, Newton Memorial Hospital in NJ, he managed a PACS replacement, the procurement processes, and facilitation of a three-way contractual negotiation for NMH NJ.
In the formative stages, his career was propelled by several significant positions he held early on. He was a senior project manager at the University of Chicago Medical Center, where he managed large-scale EMR and radiology departmental projects, had several junior project manager reports, and had the privilege to work alongside several notable Physician Champions. Dr. Mahendroo began his professional journey in the United States as a file room clerk at Rush University Medical Center in 1996, building a strong foundation in imaging fundamentals and Radiology IT systems Informatics. After completing his HSM Master's degree, he served as a HIPAA privacy coordinator in the Department of Compliance, implementing the HIPAA privacy rule mandated by the federal government and overseeing the approval of departmental research studies for the Corporate Compliance Department. His work as a research assistant in pediatric GI, his clinical training, and his understanding of hospital workflows were instrumental to his career path.
Despite two downturns of the economy in 2003 and 2009, facing layoffs and adversity, his resilience and motivation to succeed drove him to keep learning and acquiring new skills to maintain a competitive edge in the rapidly changing field of healthcare.
