In addition to managing a team of 20 staff members, Dr. Bernot actively engages with alums and donors through speaking engagements and personal visits. She also contributes her expertise as a guest lecturer in classes and represents the university president at various regional events.
Promoted to her position, Dr. Bernot formerly served as the director of development at the university from 2008 to 2016. Her tenure at the university was preceded by her work with the YMCA of Dane County, Madison, Wisconsin, as the financial development director between 2000 and 2007. She also held positions at the UWM Foundation as the director of annual giving from 1998 to 2000 and at the University of Wisconsin Foundation as the assistant director of the annual fund between 1996 and 1998. Throughout her career, Dr. Bernot has been recognized for her expertise in inspiring philanthropy and fostering regional collaboration to benefit education and students.
Dr. Bernot's professional journey is marked by significant achievements, including her successful management of a capital campaign that recently surpassed the most extensive campaign in Murray State University's history. The campaign began in 2018 and is set to conclude within the next 18 months. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Dr. Bernot's team was wildly successful as they had to learn to adapt to various challenging situations. Rather than focusing on fundraising, she and the team reached out to nearly 10,000 students to ensure they had everything they needed to succeed.
Beyond her professional accomplishments, Dr. Bernot has been active in her community through affiliation with the Center for International Business and Trade at Murray State University (2018). She previously garnered success as a member of the Cadiz United Methodist Church financial committee, on the board of directors for the United Way of Kentucky, and as the former president of the United Way of Murray-Calloway County board of directors.
In preparation for her career, Dr. Bernot received a Bachelor of Science in business management and marketing from Edgewood College in 1996. She subsequently earned a Master of Science in organizational communication in 2014 and a Doctor of Education in P-20 and community leadership with a focus on higher education administration in 2021 from Murray State University.
Dr. Bernot remains active in her professional community as a member of the International Association of Women. In recognition of her contributions, she was honored with the title of Kentucky Colonel by The Honorable Order of Kentucky Colonels in 2022. Dr. Bernot attributes much of her success to her unwavering support and encouragement from influential figures throughout her life, including her parents, spouse, donors, and alumni.
