Considering her professional achievements, Ms. Reisma was named the Teacher of the Year by Benton Junior High School in 2016 and the Arkansas Education Association in 2017.
ALEXANDER, AR, March 26, 2024 /24-7PressRelease/ -- April Reisma has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
After earning a Bachelor of Arts in Family and Consumer Sciences from the University of Northern Iowa in 1992, Ms. Reisma became a Home Economics teacher. Several years later, she left the educational field for personal reasons and began working for the Post Office before returning to education after a health crisis. She had difficulty obtaining a public school position after moving from Iowa to Arkansas. Ms. Reisma began teaching mathematics in an alternate setting to young adults aged 17 to 26 who could not finish their education in a traditional setting. Through this experience, she discovered an affinity for special education, and was able to procure a position in the public education setting.
Over the years, Ms. Reisma gained valuable expertise in education as a Special Education teacher in the Benton School District; also, as the secretary, and then as the president of the Benton Education Association, and as a micro-credential writer and assessor for the National Education Association (NEA). Additionally, she served on the national Elementary and Secondary School Act (ESSA) Implementation Team with the NEA. Likewise, she served on the State of Arkansas Educator Effectiveness and Licensure Team. Outside of her educational pursuits, she dedicated herself to the Democratic Party of Saline County as the vice chair and labor caucus chair. Drawing on years of professional experience, Ms. Reisma excels as a Learning Lab Special Education teacher for the Pulaski County Special School District and currently serves as the president of the Arkansas Education Association.
An expert in her field, Ms. Reisma has consistently built upon her professional knowledge, earning a Special Education endorsement through the University of Arkansas, a Master of Educational Theory and Practice from Arkansas State University, and a Virtual Online Teaching endorsement and an English as a Second Language endorsement from Henderson State University. She is also a board-certified teacher in Exceptional Needs through the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards and holds a professional teaching license through the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.
Considering her professional achievements, Ms. Reisma was named the Teacher of the Year by Benton Junior High School in 2016 and the Arkansas Education Association in 2017. Additionally, she was recognized for Excellence in Teaching through California Casualty and the NEA Foundation in 2018. While her career has been filled with highlights, she takes the most pride in being a national board-certified teacher and earning her master's degree. Though hard work and dedication have brought her far in her career, she credits her success to God's guidance and being a lifelong learner. Looking ahead, Ms. Reisma intends to help make Arkansas a collective bargaining state and continuing to help protect and support public education in her future retirement.
