Mr. Brisch has been serving as the vice president of U.S. development at Matrix Renewables, a global renewable energy platform based in Madrid, since 2022. In this capacity, he leads efforts to identify and develop renewable energy, energy storage and green hydrogen markets across the country, overseeing market analysis and selection, site selection, permitting, environmental assessments, the interconnection of projects to utility grids, joint venture relationships, energy and REC sales and customer relationships. Mr. Brisch's expertise in evaluating development opportunities and understanding financial analysis and risk has been pivotal in his career where he has so far invested in or developed approximately $5 billion worth of renewable energy projects totaling more than 2.7 GWs that are now contracted or in operation.
Prior to his current position, Mr. Brisch was the senior director of project development and origination at Ecoplexus Inc., a renewable energy company based in San Francisco, from 2019 to 2022. He also served as a director at Quinbrook Infrastructure Partners in Houston between 2016 and 2019 and as a director of project development at First Solar in Houston from 2015 to 2016. Mr. Brisch began his career in project development at Recurrent Energy in 2010 during the company's early years. Recurrent Energy is now one of the world's largest and most geographically diversified platforms specializing in utility-scale solar and energy storage project development.
During an earlier stage of his career, Mr. Brisch was an associate at Baker Botts LLP, an international law firm, from 2001 to 2008, where he was involved in energy mergers and acquisitions, project finance, corporate finance, and project development. While at Baker Botts, Mr. Brisch represented clients in more than $20 billion in financings and more than $3 billion in acquisitions. He began his professional journey as an associate at the professional services company PricewaterhouseCoopers International Ltd. from 1996 to 1998, where he audited and advised clients on accounting, internal controls, and various business matters.
In preparation for his career, Mr. Brisch received a Bachelor of Arts in accounting and philosophy, cum laude, from Southwestern University, a Doctor of Jurisprudence, with honors, from the University of Texas in 2001, and a Master of Business Administration, with honors (approximately top 10%), from the University of California, Berkeley in 2010. While coming of age, he was involved as a member of the Boy Scouts of America, where he ultimately received the highest rank attainable, Eagle Scout.
He also maintained a designation as a certified public accountant for several years. Adding to his professional expertise, Mr. Brisch is a member of the Texas Bar Association.
