A current autodidact and micro-influencer after career retirement, Mr. Edgar joined as an early member of the L-5 Society that later merged with the National Space Institute to form the Washington D.C. based National Space Society (NSS). He is currently assigned as a volunteer member of the NSS space settlement advocacy committee that annually visits Capitol Hill to advocate for various current and future space initiatives and public affairs committee as their press vetting volunteer for the annual NSS International Space Development Conference held at various professional urban venues in-turn throughout the United States (US) and territories. Currently, the NSS is supporting the National Aeronautics and Space Administration shifting focus from government-organized space programs to government-sponsored commercial space endeavors which have launched several commercial space companies. The NSS also supports international and national endeavors for space-based solar power satellites research and development to beam energy via microwave or laser to Earth based ground stations for terrestrial electrical grid use. Previously, he gained valuable expertise in event planning, media, marketing, and crowdfunding as a volunteer with Solar Roadways in Sandpoint, Idaho and the Innovation Collective in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho. Mr. Edgar spent his professional life serving within the U.S. Department of Defense (DOD) at the Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA), the National Security Agency (NSA) and Air Force Intelligence Analysis Agency in the federal civil service. During his uniformed military career, Mr. Edgar was a active and reserve duty commissioned officer in the United States Air Force (USAF) assigned to the NSA, the National Air Intelligence Center (NAIC), the 497th Intelligence Group (497IG), the Air Force Intelligence Support Agency, and the U.S. Air Forces in Europe (USAFE) headquarters.
Before starting his professional journey, Mr. Edgar earned an Associate of Arts in business administration and a certification in mainframe computer programming and operations from the San Joaquin Delta Community College. Subsequently, he received a Bachelor of Arts in German literature from the University of California's College of Letters and Science, and while on active duty a Master of Arts in national security studies from Georgetown University's Graduate School. Similarly, Mr. Edgar completed several certifications through Defense Acquisition University, Air University's Air Command and Staff College, Air University's Squadron Officers School, USAF and US Government technical schools and, after commissioning before military duty, participated in Clark University's West German Parliament Internship Program.
Driven to stay abreast of changes in the field, Mr. Edgar aligns himself with TheIntelligenceCommunity.com, and is a life member of the NSS, the Military Officers Association, Air and Space Forces Association, American Legion and Disabled American Veterans, plus the California Alumni Association (Berkeley) and the Georgetown University Alumni Association. For his professional achievement, under federal civil service recognition, Mr. Edgar individually won one Signals Intelligence Directorate (SID) and two Customer Relationships Directorate Civilian Performance Awards from the NSA, eight Department of the Air Force Civilian Performance Awards, and the Assistant Chief of Staff/Intelligence Capitol Team Civilian Manager of the Quarter, NAIC Director of Intelligence Assessments Civilian Manager of the Quarter, 497IG Commander's Team Player Award. Additionally, Mr. Edgar directly contributed to his unit's DTRA Large Team Award for developing unique interdisciplinary information science capabilities, the NSA Deputy SID Director Cross Functional Team Award for reapportionment of analysis and production resources, the NAIC Director of Intelligence Excellence Award for Operating Location Pentagon, and the Vice Presidential National Performance Review Award for the 497IG Total Quality Management Program. Under military recognition Mr. Edgar was individually awarded the DOD Meritorious Service Medal, Air Force Meritorious Service Medal, and the Air Force Commendation Medal with two oak leaf clusters.
While his career has been filled with standout moments, Mr. Edgar takes the most pride in his assignment as a politico-military affairs officer who supported the Conventional Armed Forces in Europe Treaty (CFE) negotiations at HQ North Atlantic Treaty Organization CFE High Level Task Force in Brussels, Belgium and the CFE negotiations in Vienna, Austria, plus initial author/editor of the USAFE CFE Compliance Plan for on-site inspection of USAFE air bases before CFE Treaty entry into force. Mr. Edgar was also chosen to be one of the few and most junior temporary duty United States European Command on-site inspectors under the Confidence and Security Building Measures and Disarmament document negotiated in Stockholm, Sweden. Mr. Edgar was also assigned to a unit in the Pentagon when the 9/11 attack took place. Although he was on emergency leave and not in the building that day, he participated in Operation Enduring Freedom and Iraqi Freedom from beginning to end.
