Ms. Koosmann is a seasoned architect with extensive experience in project management and sustainable design. She is a certified passive building professional, educator, researcher, and architect with A+ Works Consulting, where she excels in guiding clients through a holistic approach to sustainable design. Since forming her consulting business in 2012, Ms. Koosmann has worked on numerous projects in the U.S. and abroad. Most notably she worked overseas leading Filipino students on bamboo design and construction of community structures, including: the "Panaghiusa" Multipurpose Hall, a Welcome Center, and a Rural Classroom. Her Fulbright research earned a national award in 2018 for her work in the Philippines. In the U.S. she has partnered with small businesses and non-profit organizations to bolster their programs: SuperCharge! Foods urban farm, ArtReach St. Croix Mobile Art Gallery, University of Arizona Faculty Housing and various organizations in Tucson, AZ.
Throughout her career, Ms. Koosmann has held positions with Precipitate, EduMind, Inc., the University of Arizona, the U.S. State Department, Foundation University, and Meyer, Scherer & Rockcastle. She has also gained valuable experience at Schreiber Starling Whitehead Architects, Skidmore Owings & Merrill, LLP, and the University of Wisconsin – Milwaukee Institute on Aging and the Environment and Community Design Solutions.
Ms. Koosmann holds a Bachelor of Science in architecture from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and a Master of Architecture from the University of Washington. She has also earned certifications through Phius and the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards. She is affiliated with the Association for Community Design, the SEED Network, and the American Institute of Architects, where she served on the Minnesota chapter's housing advocacy committee from 2014 to 2016.
Throughout her career, Ms. Koosmann has contributed to publications and conferences, including "The Balancing Act Between Design and Performance," "Building Resilience in the Time of Super Typhoons: Evaluating the First Filipino Design-Build University Program," and "Sustaining Communities Through Design-Build Education." She has received numerous awards for her professional achievements, including the smART Ventures Grant from the Seattle Office of Cultural Affairs in 2008, the Community Foundation Grant from Teletech in 2014, and the Core Certificate of Research Excellence from the Environmental Design Research Association in 2018.
Ms. Koosmann takes pride in becoming a Fulbright scholar in the Philippines and establishing a program there. She attributes her success to hard work, dedication, and a willingness to take risks. Looking ahead, Ms. Koosmann intends to continue her work on an international scale and collaborate with other universities and organizations.
