Dr. Leslie has established a distinguished career, currently serving as an assistant professor of business communication at the Neil Griffin College of Business at Arkansas State University since 2021. His tenure at the university spans over a decade and a half, with his initial role as a communication instructor and academic technology specialist from 2008 to 2013. Dr. Leslie then progressed to interim director of the university's Faculty Center and as a communication studies instructor between 2013 and 2015. He began focusing solely on teaching and research in 2015. From 2015 to spring 2021, Dr. Leslie taught business communication, retailing, leadership, and social impact management courses at the Neil Griffin College of Business.
Prior to these academic roles, Dr. Leslie gained substantial experience in the corporate sector. He was a regional sales manager in 2003, quickly ascending through the ranks to become a regional sales director from 2004 to 2006 and a distribution manager in 2006. Dr. Leslie's career began in education as a mathematics and science teacher at Knox College in Jamaica, a co-educational high school for both day students and boarders in Clarendon Parish, which laid the foundation for his future endeavors in higher education leadership.
Dr. Leslie has been instrumental in his field as a reviewer for the International Journal of Business Communications, the Academy of Management Conferences, and the Institute for Global Business Research. As a respected scholar, he has also authored numerous scholarly articles, book chapters, and a children's book, ABCs of Surviving School Violence.
Civically invested, Dr. Leslie has been a member of the Jonesboro Chamber of Commerce since 2015, the 2019 co-chair of the public image committee for the Rotary Club of Jonesboro, and a member of its board since 2023. He also garnered recognition on the board of the Arkansas Fashion School.
Outside of academia and professional circles, Dr. Leslie is deeply involved with charitable causes, such as St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, the Northeast Arkansas Food Bank, the Saint Bernard Hospital annual Thanksgiving meal for the community, and The Salvation Army. His contributions extend beyond financial support as he actively volunteers his time and energy. Looking forward with purposeful intent, Dr. Leslie aims to enhance the Silvin Louise Leslie scholarship fund initiated by his family for mathematics students at his alma mater, Church Teachers' College in Jamaica. His vision includes contributing financially to social and community organizations and dedicating himself to consulting for small businesses to aid them in their development and growth strategies.
Dr. Leslie holds an impressive array of academic qualifications. He initially received a diploma in Mathematics and Science from Church Teachers' College, University of the West Indies, in 1991, followed by a Bachelor of Science in Management on campus in 1996. He also garnered a Master of Business Administration from the University of Manchester in 2002. Following these academic pursuits, Dr. Leslie began studying at Arkansas State University, earning a Master of Science in information systems and e-commerce in 2008, a Master of Arts in communication from Arkansas State University, also acquired in 2008, a Specialist Degree in community college education and administration in 2014, and a Doctor of Education in higher education leadership in 2017. Dr. Leslie's dedication to lifelong learning is further demonstrated by his certification in effective college instruction from the Association of College and University Educators, endorsed by the American Council on Education, in 2022.
Dr. Leslie's expertise is recognized through his active participation in various industry-related organizations. He has held memberships with the Academy of Management, the Association of Business Communication, and the American Educational Research Association. Dr. Leslie also contributes to the technology special interest group for the Society for Informational Technology and Teacher Education.
Dr. Leslie's commitment to education and civic contributions is evident in his accolades.
