Mr. Long has established himself as a proficient mechanical engineer throughout various roles with Eastman Chemical Company since 2015. He joined Eastman in 2015 after receiving a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University becoming the fourth generation of the Long family to work at Eastman. His contributions have included both leadership and individual contributor roles across multiple operating divisions within the company. Mr. Long spent the first several years of his career in Worldwide Engineering & Construction as a Plant Engineer. During this time, he spent 3 months as an expat in Kuantan, Malaysia on a plant startup and was involved in multiple capital projects within the Cellulose Esters & Specialty Plastics Division. His strong interest in the maintenance process led to his first leadership role in the Centralized Maintenance & Services Division where he served as an area manager to over 50 craft workers. Mr. Long would later establish himself as a company expert in large refrigeration systems supporting operations, maintenance, and capital projects pertaining to process cooling across multiple production sites. It was in this role that Mr. Long received the Responsible Care® Energy Efficiency Award from the American Chemistry Council in 2023 for the installation of an absorption chiller to utilize waste steam for a cooling application.
At Virginia Tech, Mr. Long served as a student ambassador for the Department of Mechanical Engineering. He graduated Cum Laude and was inducted into Pi Tau Sigma International Honor Society for Mechanical Engineers. His time away from school was spent as a cooperative education student working for Domtar in Kingsport, TN at a pulp & paper mill. He has been a member of the American Society for Mechanical Engineers since 2011. At Eastman, he has been a member of the Virginia Tech recruiting team since 2019 where he has sought future engineering talent from his alma mater. His other volunteer activities have included various STEM events such as FIRST, Engineers Week, and the ASME Egg Drop.
Outside of work, Mr. Long enjoys volunteering at the Ronald McDonald House in Johnson City, TN alongside his wife Brittany, who is also a Marquis Who's Who listee. They reside in an 1890s era farmhouse with their beloved pug Buster. They enjoy traveling and have many locations throughout the world that they hope to visit.
