SANTA MONICA, CA, April 15, 2024 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Nathaniel Trives has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Upon graduating from Santa Monica High School, Mr. Trives earned a Bachelor of Science in criminal justice from California State University, Los Angeles in 1968. Although driven to pursue a career in law enforcement, he faced rejection and criticism during the interview process for the Santa Monica Police Officers' Union. Despite the setback, he turned to his professors for help and discovered an opportunity to teach at his alma mater. However, this required an advanced degree. Undeterred, Mr. Trives pursued a Master of Public Administration at California State University, Los Angeles, and began his decades-long career in education.

Over the years, Mr. Trives gained valuable teaching and educational administration expertise with Santa Monica Community College as deputy superintendent, professor, and chief government relations officer. Similarly, he fought for social justice as the affirmative action officer for the State of California at California State University, Los Angeles, where he also taught as a professor for nearly 30 years. In addition to education, he lent his considerable expertise to the California Commission on Judicial Performance, the United States District Court for the Northern District of California, CLC Enterprise, and Santa Monica, where he served as the first African-American mayor. During his tenure as mayor, "Mr. Santa Monica" met several U.S. presidents, Martin Luther King, Jr., and the former governor of California, Ed Brown. Drawing on years of varied experience, Mr. Trives serves as a professor emeritus of criminal justice at California State University, Los Angeles, and as the part-time instructor of a current events class at Santa Monica Community College.

Driven to remain abreast of changes in the field, Mr. Trives aligned himself with the Southern California Association of Governments, the National Conference of Community and Justice, the International Association of Chiefs of Police, and the United States Conference of Mayors. In conjunction with his work, he has also contributed to his community through the California Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training, the Los Angeles Regional Criminal Justice Planning Board, and the Rotary Club of Santa Monica, where he has been a member since 1976.

While his career has been filled with highlights, Mr. Trives takes the most pride in serving as the first non-lawyer, special master for the San Francisco Police Department Administration, being recognized for his leadership in the city of Santa Monica, and in being appointed by Chief Judge Robert F. Peckham of the North District Court in San Francisco to oversee the Consent Decree filed by the San Francisco Department's Officers for Justice. Though hard work and dedication have brought him far in his career, he credits his success to the many opportunities that came his way and growing up in a Christian household. Looking ahead, Mr. Trives intends to leave a legacy for children with big dreams for the future.
