Before launching X-Robotx in 2019, Mr. Xanthus built a stellar reputation as a teacher with the New York City Department of Education, which he joined in 2003 and still currently teaches full time. Mr. X, as his students refer to him, excelled early on as a teacher of Science and English. Since 2008, he has been enlightening sixth-grade students in Fresh Meadows Queens with his expertise and a deep passion for learning. Notably, Mr. Xanthus has become a leader in the field of STEM education - specifically Robotics Education. Achievements include being the C0-Chairperson of New York City's FIRST LEGO league prior to forming X-Robotx, developing and implementing a LEGO based Robotics curriculum at his school and others, Xanthus, also initiated an after-school robotics program, which evolved to compete successfully on the international level.
Mr. Xanthus's expertise is not confined to the classroom; he served for 3 years as the Robotics in the Classroom staff developer for the STEM Institute at Stuyvesant High School and most notably shared his knowledge internationally as a staff developer at the College of North Atlantic in Doha, Qatar during the International Exploring ICT in Education Conference in 2016. In addition to his educational roles, Mr. Xanthus remains active in his community through various sponsorships and board memberships that support youth sports and STEM education initiatives. He has been recognized for his distinct efforts with accolades such as the 2018 Volunteer of the Year designation from NYC FIRST, and he has contributed significantly to numerous JHS216 Robotics team achievements in Fresh Meadows. Mr. Xanthus counts as his most notable achievement the ability to directly inspire and motivate young people to pursue robotics, and he is humbled to be approached by former students who are eager to share their personal stories of success.
Xanthus's personal life is equally rich, and he is a proud husband and father of two. To achieve balance, he enjoys coaching youth sports teams and other options to encourage children outside of the classroom. With aspirations to expand X-Robotx on a national scale through franchising, Mr. Xanthus continues to strive toward creating opportunities for children across the United States to engage with STEM education in exciting and meaningful ways.
