As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. After earning a Bachelor of Science in business administration and management from Sungkyunkwan University in 1982, Mr. Kim joined the Republic of Korea Air Force as an intelligence targeting officer for the Combat Air Command, foreign liaison officer, and first lieutenant. Soon after he was promoted to first lieutenant, he was transferred to Air Force Headquarters in Seoul where he served as Foreign Liaison Officer through which he assisted as a main point of contact at the ROK Air Force for all foreign military attachés who were stationed in their respective foreign embassies in Seoul, South Korea. Upon completing his service, he began in the corporate world, serving as a branch manager and corporate relationship manager for Hana Bank's Daewoo Center branch. Subsequently, he gained valuable expertise in banking in a similar role with Nara Bank (now the Bank of Hope, the largest NASDAQ listed Korean-American community bank) in Silicon Valley and as the manager of overseas market development for Calyx Technology, through which he performed market research and designed and implemented feasibility studies.
Over the years, Mr. Kim has also worked in the international finance department of the Bank of Korea and served as the director of international business development for Ohana Foundation. This nonprofit provides materials for teaching English and kindergarten through 12th-grade curriculum in developing countries. Likewise, he was a columnist for the weekend essay section of The Korea Times America for seven years. Driven to pursue a career outside the corporate world, Mr. Kim became a real estate broker for Palo Alto Galaxy Realty & Finance in 2006. Due to his considerable industry expertise, he also established the Galaxy School of Real Estate in 2023.
Throughout his career, Mr. Kim has expanded his professional knowledge by completing a Series 6 license through the North American Securities Administrators Association and a Series 63 license through the National Association of Securities Dealers, pursuing coursework through Mastercard International, and becoming a broker through the California Department of Real Estate. Alongside his work, Mr. Kim has served as president of the San Francisco Bay Area Alumni Club of Sungkyunkwan University, and vice president of the Global Alumni Association of Sungkyunkwan University. He contributed to a community support campaign through the YMCA of Silicon Valley.
Outside of his work, Mr. Kim authored and published a book of essays in Korean in South Korea titled "Edelweiss in San Francisco," which has been one of the highlights of his career. Another standout moment was serving as the vice president of the alumni association at his alma mater. Within the coming years, Mr. Kim intends to translate his book from Korean to English and eventually work on a second book.
