Commodore Wilson's experience encompasses marine operations, bridge operations, ship navigation, and international safety management, lead ISM auditor including ISPS and MLC, Fleet Operation Center management, promotion panel assessments and bridge resource management (BRM) quality assurance.
Prior to this role, Commodore Wilson had an illustrious tenure with Princess Cruises and the Holland America Group. From 2005 to 2023, he ascended from fleet captain to vice president of marine operations, overseeing multiple prestigious cruise lines. During his time as captain and staff captain, from 1997 to 2005, he honed his leadership skills and operational knowledge. His early career saw him progress from a navigation deck cadet to a safety officer, between 1976 and 1997.
Commodore Wilson's commitment to excellence is further demonstrated through his active participation in industry-related organizations. To wit, he is an associate fellow and member of the council of The Nautical Institute and has served as the vice chair of its U.S. west branch since 2021. Commodore Wilson also chaired the operational and technical committee of the Northwest and Canada region of Cruise Lines International Association from 2015 to 2019.
Transitioning from his professional achievements to personal accolades, Commodore Wilson is recognized for his contributions beyond his primary profession. He has provided support during the Falkland War in 1982, when the ship he served on, SS Canberra, was requisitioned by the UK Government. His philanthropic efforts include supporting charity events for the Michael Hoffman Foundation, which aids children with cancer, supporting the Royal National Lifeboat Institution in the UK and donating to the USCG Foundation. For his service during the Falklands War of 1982, he was awarded the South Atlantic Medal by the British government.
In reflecting on his success, Commodore Wilson credits his wealth of experience, dedication, and work ethic. His passion for maritime operations was evident early in his career as he learned from seasoned captains and later applied those lessons as vice president of marine operations for Holland America Group. After leaving Princess Cruises following the COVID-19 pandemic and return to service of the Holland America Group fleet, he established Wilson Maritime and Port Consultants with a vision to enhance safety standards within the industry.
Outside of his professional endeavors, Mr. Wilson enjoys snowboarding, skiing, mountain biking, and sailing—activities that reflect his love for adventure and the outdoors. He is also dedicated to growing his consulting business, with aspirations to positively influence maritime safety culture.
