Before taking on his current role, Dr. Trigg contributed to the community as a police officer for the City of New Brunswick from 1994 to 2020. Throughout his service, he specialized in narcotics, gangs, street crimes, and community policing. For over 20 years, he dedicated himself to roles as a D.A.R.E. (Drug Abuse Resistance Education) Officer and G.R.E.A.T. (Gang Resistance Education and Training) Officer, impacting over 25,000 children with the message of living drug and gang-free lives. Dr. Trigg also accumulated 15 years of supervisory experience within the traffic safety enforcement and community outreach units, ultimately retiring with the rank of lieutenant.
In addition to his law enforcement career, Dr. Trigg generously shared his expertise with students at Rutgers University in New Brunswick, New Jersey, serving as a part-time lecturer in the criminal justice program from 2014 to 2019.
Dr. Trigg's academic foundation has been crucial in shaping his professional successes. His educational journey commenced with a Bachelor's of Science degree in administration of justice from Rutgers University in 1993, followed by a Master's of Arts degree in Human Resources Training and Development in 2006. Continuing his academic pursuits, he earned an Education Specialist degree in 2011, which culminated with a Doctor of Education degree in higher education, all from Seton Hall University. Additionally, in 2020, Dr. Trigg obtained certification as a licensed New Jersey private investigator and a New Jersey (S.O.R.A.) Security Officer Registration Act instructor, further solidifying his expertise and qualifications.
Throughout his multifaceted career, Dr. Trigg has maintained membership with the New Jersey Licensed Private Investigators Association. Outside of his professional endeavors, he is actively involved in his community through extracurricular activities such as volunteering as a disc jockey for local youth football and basketball leagues. Moreover, Dr. Trigg has been lauded for his accomplishments as an author of the recent publications, "Play it Safe: A Teens Guide to Personal Safety, Phone Safety, and Police Safety," released in 2022, and "Keep Them Safe: An Educator's Guide to School Safety, Digital Safety, and Personal Safety," released in 2023.
Dr. Trigg's commitment to service has been rewarded with numerous accolades, including a Lifesaving Award, recognition as a New Jersey State P.B.A. Meritorious Service Honoree, and various police department accolades.
