Dr. James L. Chappuis lends years of expertise to his work with Spine Center Atlanta



He takes the most pride in patenting and developing a screw for the spine called the fenestrated screw, which was bought by Medtronic and is now used in more than 90 countries worldwide.

    ATLANTA, GA, April 19, 2024 /24-7PressRelease/ -- James L. Chappuis, MD, FACS, has been included in Marquis Who's Who. A seasoned, board-certified orthopedic spine surgeon with years of expertise, Dr. Chappuis excels as the founder and chief executive officer of Spine Center Atlanta, through which he provides surgical interventions, non-surgical treatments, and rehabilitation services for patients with adult spinal disorders. As head of the organization, he also manages 150 employees and meets with employees and managers to ensure the Center runs smoothly. Alongside his work with Spine Center Atlanta, Dr. Chappuis founded the Westside Cultural Arts Center, a living gallery that holds avant-garde exhibitions, community outreach events, conferences, and live performances.

Over the years, Dr. Chappuis gained valuable expertise through the AO spine fellowship at SRH Klinikum Karlsbad-Langensteinbach GmbH and various roles with North Cobb Orthopedics, NAS Millington, and Methodist Hospital. An expert in his field, he earned a Bachelor of Science in biology summa cum laude from The University of Toledo in 1977 and an MD from the Medical College of Ohio in 1980. Subsequently, he expanded his professional knowledge by completing a rotating surgical internship at Mercy Hospital, a residency in general surgery at the Methodist Hospital in Memphis, and a residency in orthopedic surgery through the University of Tennessee's Campbell Clinic. Throughout his career, Dr. Chappuis has also been licensed to practice through the Florida, Georgia, and Tennessee Boards of Medicine and been board certified in orthopedic surgery through the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery.

Driven to remain abreast of changes in the field, Dr. Chappuis aligns himself with the American College of Surgeons, the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, the North American Spine Society, the Atlanta and Georgia Orthopedic Societies, and the Medical Associations of Georgia and Atlanta. Outside his work, he also volunteers with the Atlanta Union Mission.

Due to his vast breadth of knowledge, Dr. Chappuis has obtained over 30 U.S. patents and been featured in such articles as "Spine Center Atlanta: Pioneering the Future of Spinal Surgery and Rehabilitation" in the Georgia Business Journal and "Spine Surgeons interests range from art to real estate," which was published in the Atlanta Business Chronicle. Additionally, Dr. Chappuis has co-authored various articles, including "Biomechanical Aspects of Pedicle Screw Loosening in the Lumbar Spine," "Monitoring of lumbosacral nerve roots during spinal instrumentation," and "Using intraoperative electrophysiologic monitoring as a diagnostic tool for determining levels to decompress in the cervical spine: A case report."

In light of his professional achievements, Dr. Chappuis has been awarded many times, earning the Best Spine Poster Award from the Orthopedic Research Society and a nomination for the White Cloud Award for Best Basic Science Paper through the International Meeting on Advanced Spine Techniques. The Fulton County Board of Commissioners also recognized one day of the year as "Dr. James Chappuis Day." The cornerstone of his success lies in his faith in God. Looking ahead, Dr. Chappuis intends to develop an art program through the Westside Cultural Arts Center and help more patients with adult spinal disorders. Ultimately, he will also open an aesthetic medical spa called Rejuvenate Restore Med Spa with anti-aging and regenerative medicine elements.
