Hailing from several decades of excellence and leadership in his chosen field, Mr. Baumann presently serves, among other roles, as Adjunct Professor at Southern New Hampshire University (SNHU) and Board Vice-Chair at AmpleHarvest.org. "After many years in leading roles as an audit partner, chief financial officer and financial regulator," Mr. Baumann noted, "I view this chapter of my professional career as a time of giving back and helping others."
Mr. Baumann's journey in the financial services industry began at PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC), where he rose to become the deputy chair of global financial services. Becoming a partner at PwC, at just 32 years of age, he served such high-profile clients as Chase Manhattan Bank, The World Bank, Prudential Insurance, MasterCard and other notable companies, and was ultimately responsible for PwC's global banking business. Recognizing his expertise, he was eventually recruited by Freddie Mac, at a time of trouble for the $2 trillion company. He became their chief financial officer and executive vice president. Due to the importance of homeownership in the United States, he testified before Congress on many occasions, particularly on issues related to housing and finance.
Mr. Baumann went on to serve as the chief auditor and director of professional standards at the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board (PCAOB), during which time he was responsible for establishing professional practice standards for audits of all companies that are registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission. Following this period, he began teaching students as a faculty member at The Washington Campus in 2019. Recently, he also joined the faculty at SNHU.
Before embarking upon his professional journey, Mr. Baumann studied accounting at Queens College, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts. He subsequently earned a Master of Business Administration from Baruch College in New York City and later completed the executive program in business administration at Columbia University. Throughout his career, Mr. Baumann has been recognized for his deep understanding of financial systems and regulatory frameworks, which has earned him membership in esteemed organizations such as the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the New York State Society of Certified Public Accountants, where he served on the banking committee in both. In accounting for his overall success, Mr. Baumann credits hard work, interpersonal skills, integrity, and respect—qualities that have served him well throughout his career.
Building upon his professional accomplishments, Mr. Baumann's personal life is marked by dedication to family and community. Married for over five decades, he is a father to four children and finds joy in engaging with public affairs and government. An avid golfer and active reader of nonfiction and history, Mr. Baumann is committed to lifelong learning and sharing his knowledge with others. His new role as part of the faculty at Southern New Hampshire University will allow him to teach accounting online to a vast student body.
