As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Hailing from nearly three decades of experience in the field of metallurgical engineering, Mr. Adams has earned distinction as the vice president of health, safety, environment (HSE), risk, quality & lean manufacturing at Norsk Hydro, a leading provider of aluminum products covering a wide range of uses including the cutting-edge electric vehicle market, including Tesla. In this capacity, he oversees the health and safety culture and performance at more than 20 facilities across North America, which calls him to work closely with such regulatory bodies as the Occupational Safety and Health Administration and the Environmental Protection Agency. His efforts have been instrumental in standardizing practices across facilities to ensure regulatory compliance while fostering a culture of continuous safety improvement. His work also focuses on supporting the company-wide initiative to reduce carbon footprint and drive the products and processes of Hydro North America to a sustainable future with a net zero goal by 2050.
Before his current position, Mr. Adams held several key roles within the industry. He served as the chief operating officer at JSW in 2019 and was the vice president of quality and continuous improvement at Norsk Hydro from 2017 to 2019. Before joining Norsk Hydro, he was with Sapa (currently Hydro) as vice president of quality and continuous improvement from 2016 to 2017. His career includes significant tenures at United States Steel Corporation as its director of quality, leading the Corporate Center of Excellence, and at NLMK Group, where he held various executive positions from 2001 through 2015. Mr. Adams began his career at Armco Advanced Materials Company (currently Cleveland Cliffs), where he progressed to become a senior process engineer between 1995 and 1998 and eventually moving into operations with full P&L responsible for a large department in the facility from 1998 through 2002.
Mr. Adams is most proud of his leadership during a critical period at Hydro's Portland, Oregon, plant amidst a federal lawsuit related to quality issues dating back 25 years before his tenure began. Under his guidance, innovative solutions were developed, including a hands-off, innovative approach to mechanical testing and creating an in-house software system for compliant data management. These efforts resolved the lawsuit and positioned Hydro as an industry leader in testing standards.
Mr. Adams has completed significant coursework toward an MBA, with a concentration in organizational leadership, from Duquesne University and holds a Bachelors and Master of Science in metallurgical engineering from the University of Pittsburgh, where he graduated summa cum laude. His academic background has been pivotal in his professional achievements, providing him with a solid foundation in technical expertise and leadership skills. Mr. Adams also formally educates customers through self-designed classes in metallurgical process and product engineering as it applies to steel and aluminum.
Outside of his professional life, Mr. Adams is deeply committed to personal growth and community service. He serves on the board of several industry-related technical organizations and volunteers regularly at his local church's community meal for the homeless. Despite his busy career, he prioritizes spending time with his family and enjoys exercising and outdoor activities.
