As the deputy director of the Miami-Dade County Department of Solid Waste Management, her responsibilities encompass strategizing and overseeing the department's administrative functions that include contracts, negotiations, human resources, fleet management, intergovernmental affairs, public information, and budget. Having initially begun her career as a clerk at the department while taking night classes at college, she gravitated to other government departments for 15 years, after which she gradually circled back to solid waste management. Throughout the years, she advanced to higher roles of leadership across various divisions, and garnered acclaim for her ability to handle critical aspects of procurement and contracts, disposal operations, and administration.
Outside of her work at the Department of Solid Waste Management, Ms. Espinosa-Anderson's dedication to community outreach and education was evident during her tenure with Team Metro from 1995 to 2008. Her commitment has not only advanced her career but also made her a respected figure in the field at large. To wit, she is a member of several relevant organizations, including the Solid Waste Association of North America, the National Institute of Governmental Purchasing, the American Society for Public Administration, Leadership Miami, and Phi Theta Kappa.
Beyond her professional endeavors, Ms. Espinosa-Anderson is actively involved with Making Strides Against Breast Cancer as a volunteer and supports United Way through donations. She has been recognized for her contributions with accolades such as the Susan B. Anthony Award from the South Florida Hispanic Chamber of Commerce.
Ms. Espinosa-Anderson's educational background has been instrumental in her professional achievements. She earned a Master of Public Administration from Florida International University in 1994, having completed a bachelor's degree in communications at the same institution in 1991. Her academic journey began with an associate degree in business administration at Miami Dade College, graduating with honors in 1987. Additionally, she holds extensive certification in landfill operations, material recovery facility, and transfer station operations, and she has been a Certified Professional Public Buyer since 2009.
The foundation of Ms. Espinosa-Anderson's success resides in the values instilled by her parents, whose sacrifices paved the way for her accomplishments. In addition to her vocational efforts, she finds joy in singing with her church choir, reading, and writing poetry-activities that reflect her creative spirit and commitment to community engagement. Looking ahead, she envisions continuing to serve her constituents before eventually transitioning into retirement and potentially sharing her knowledge as an adjunct professor.
