Ms. Rivot has established herself as an expert in the English language over her two-decade-long career. Currently an adjunct faculty at Naugatuck Valley Community College in Danbury, Connecticut, since 2024, she brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to her role. Previously, Ms. Rivot was an English teacher at the EF International Academy in Thornwood, New York, from 2017 to 2020, where she honed her skills in teaching English to international students.
A journey in education began in Danbury, where Ms. Rivot was employed by the Danbury Public Schools from 2005 to 2012, including a tenure at the Danbury High School as an English teacher beginning in 2008. She then traveled to Fort Lauderdale, Florida, where she served as an ESL instructor at the Lingua Language Center from 2015 to 2016. She also spent a year teaching English as a second language educator at the State University of New York (SUNY) at Brockport in 2016. Ms. Rivot's extensive experience across different educational settings has been instrumental in enriching her teaching methods and solidifying her reputation as a dedicated instructor.
Ms. Rivot earned a Bachelor of Arts in English from SUNY in 1977 and a Master of Education in English language and literature from the University of Bridgeport in 2005. Additionally, she holds a certificate of paralegal science from Syracuse University in 1983.
Beyond her professional commitments, Ms. Rivot is engaged in various local initiatives that positively contribute to society. She has been active on the board of directors for the Eastern Child Welfare Society since 1990 and formerly served on the board of directors for the Fairport Food Shelf in Fairport, NY.
As a talented writer, Ms. Rivot published a historical novel, "An Abundant Life," based on the true stories of her ancestors, two children's books, "The Secret of Pet Heaven," for those who've lost a pet, "The Chickadee from Chicopee," and a young adult novel, "A Fostered Life," based on the writings of her students who were in foster care.
Ms. Rivot aims to continue her career as a college professor while dedicating time to writing and publishing additional books. Her goal is to remain active in academia and literature for as long as possible, continuing to inspire students and readers with her work and dedication. Ms. Rivot attributes her success thus far to her compassion and genuine desire to support students facing various challenges and circumstances.
Ms. Rivot also enjoys life with her three children, three grandchildren, and her wife in Connecticut.
