Ms. Veliz is a national certified professional counselor and certified first responder counselor who has dedicated her career to providing clinical behavioral health support to individuals, couples, and families. As an educator Ms. Veliz is dedicated to supporting the growth and development of her graduate students. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in English literature and sociology from Manhattan College, and graduated magna cum laude from Seton Hall University with a Master of Arts in professional counseling and an Education Specialist in professional counseling in 2020. She is currently pursuing a Doctor of Philosophy in forensic psychology and is focusing her research on the prevention of human trafficking.
Ms. Veliz is an empathetic trauma-informed counselor who practices a variety of therapeutic modalities including cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT), interpersonal social rhythm therapy (IPSRT), trauma-focused cognitive behavioral therapy (TF-CBT) and eye movement desensitization and reprossing (EMDR) therapy. Ms. Veliz is also trained in the Gottman Method which she uses in her work with couple's therapy. Ms. Veliz is dedicated to helping her clients experience healing and a reduction of suffering, to build resilience and increase emotional well-being, and to achieve greater personal fulfillment and authenticity in their own lives.
Since 2020, Ms. Veliz has been a licensed professional counselor at the Center for Evaluation and Counseling, Inc., (CEC), a non-profit mental health agency which provides mental health, child protective and advocacy services for the community. Ms. Veliz is a compassionate counselor who provides mental health care to children, adolescents and adult clients who have been impacted by abuse, neglect, and trauma. Ms. Veliz also provides outpatient counseling services for individuals suffering from a variety of mental health concerns including depression, anxiety, mood disorders, emotional disturbance, interpersonal issues and PTSD and stress related disorders. As a certified first responder counselor, Ms. Veliz is proud to support the mental health of first responders. Ms. Veliz considers her clients' personal growth and healing to be her greatest accomplishment.
In addition to providing individual clinical care, Ms. Veliz has presented on topics related to trauma for partnering agencies and members of the community. Ms. Veliz has presented on traumatic stress and the implementation of trauma informed care, the impact of trauma on development, and the seven dimensions of wellness. Ms. Veliz also helped develop a grant-funded community mental health outreach and education program providing trauma education and emotional regulation skills training to children and teens. Outside her therapeutic work, Ms. Veliz has been an adjunct professor at Seton Hall University since 2021 in the Professional Counseling MA/Ed.S program where she is proud to help support and shape the development of the next generation of counselors on their personal, academic, and professional journeys.
As a part of her commitment to service, Ms. Veliz is active in community healthcare and mental health organizations, and volunteers as a crisis counselor for the National Crisis Text Line. Her passion for her field and dedication to providing care for all have been recognized with a grant from the Newton Medical Center Community Advisory Board to implement a treatment program in her community. Ms. Veliz is a member of the American Psychological Association, the Society for Police and Criminal Psychology, the American Counselors Association, and the New Jersey Association of Professional Mediators. Ms. Veliz looks forward to continuing to develop her clinical skills in the coming years with the goal of expanding her scope of practice to greater serve populations who experience direct and vicarious trauma, and to continue to foster the healing and growth of her clients.
