Beginning his career in 1975, Mr. Blackman was hired by Touche Ross & Company straight out of college and progressed to a senior accountant. Subsequently, he joined Gelfand, Rennert & Feldman as a tax manager between 1979 and 1980. Mr. Blackman then entered entrepreneurship when he co-founded Freedman & Blackman Accountancy Corporation, where he was a partner until 1990.
In preparation for his career, Mr. Blackman graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science in Accounting, from Boston University in 1975, followed by a Master of Business Administration in Taxation, with honors, from Fairleigh Dickinson University in 1979. His extensive education and certifications, which include designations as a Certified Public Accountant in New York, California, and New Jersey, as a Personal Financial Specialist (PFS) by the AICPA, is Certified in Financial Forensics (CFF) by the AICPA, and is a Certified Financial Planner®, all of which have been instrumental in his career.
Throughout his career, Mr. Blackman has been actively involved in professional organizations, serving as a founder and first president of the All-Star Financial Group LLC and as the chair of several committees within the New Jersey Society of C PAs (NJSCPA), the New York State Society of CPAs (NYSSCPA), and the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA). His leadership roles have included chairing the NJSCPA and NYSSCPA Personal Financial Planning Committees and Entertainment & Sports Committees, as well as the AICPA Personal Financial Specialist Committee. Beyond these professional endeavors, Mr. Blackman has contributed significantly to his field through publications and projects. He co-authored the AICPA Guide to Planning for Performing and Creative Artists in 1997 and was the editor for the AICPA Continuing Professional Education Tax Considerations for Professional Athletes and Entertainers.
Mr. Blackman's contributions have earned him recognition as one of the best financial advisers by Worth Magazine for three consecutive years. He has also been listed in Accounting Today and the Consumers' Research Council of America Guide to America's Best Financial Planners, highlighted in dozens of financial publications, and was recognized as a featured guest on broadcast and cable television for his expertise. Earlier in his career, Mr. Blackman was recognized as a Distinguished Faculty member of the NYSSCPA Entertainment & Sports Committee Conferences in 1996 and 1997.
