While serving as the Director of Esther B. Clark Schools, she participated in mandated California Department of Education monitoring efforts, generated a revenue of more than $450,000 over consecutive school years, and increased the operations leadership team and faculty by 13 percent. Additionally, she managed a multimillion-dollar budget and negotiated higher tuition rates with the local SELPA (Special Education Local Plan Area). During the early stages of her career, Dr. Miller gained valuable expertise with I Can Too Learning Center as the director of applied behavior analysis and The King's Daughters' School Center for Autism as director and assistant director of educational services.
Before starting her professional career, Dr. Miller earned a Bachelor of Science in Health and Human Performance from the University of Tennessee at Martin. Subsequently, she received a Master of Education in educational administration and supervision from Middle Tennessee State University, a Doctorate in leadership and professional practice from Trevecca Nazarene University, and certifications in assault crisis training, CPR, first aid, and behavior analysis as a Board Certified Behavior Analyst. Driven to remain abreast of changes in the field, she contributed to the Children's Health Council's Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Leadership Team, Safely Reopening Team, the Agency Oversight Committee, and the LGBTQI+ Task Force. Additionally, Dr. Miller is affiliated with the California Association for Behavior Analysis, the Association of Professional Behavior Analysts, and the Association for Behavior Analysis International.
Due to her vast breadth of knowledge, Dr. Miller has authored such works as "How We Brought the Most Vulnerable Students Back to School" for the U.S. Department of Education and the presentations "Learning Challenges, Behavior, and Distance Learning" and "Behavior Management Strategies for the Classroom." Additionally, she has appeared on the podcasts "Behavior Strategies – What You Need to Know" and "Setting up Distance Learning for Behavioral Success." Dr. Miller received a Certificate of Appreciation through the San Francisco Unified School District's Community Advisory Committee for Special Education for her achievements.
While her career has been filled with highlights, Dr. Miller takes the most pride in opening and operating special education schools across the United States and its territories. Most recently, she is spearheading the opening of a second school in the US Virgin Islands that supports students with an autism spectrum disorder or other developmental disability. Though hard work and dedication have brought her far in her career, she credits her success to motivation and great teams that have worked alongside her during her 22 years in special education.
