Prior to his tenure at the Genesee County Prosecutor's Office, Mr. Cotton had a private practice and was the principal attorney at Glenn M-D Cotton, PLC Attorney and Counselor at Law from 1997 to 2021 Beginning in 1995, he served as a judicial attorney for the State of Michigan, where he gained invaluable experience that would shape his future endeavors in law. His legal career began as a law clerk and court officer for Oakland County from 1992 to 1994.
Combining all his legal experience, Mr. Cotton has become an expert in defense and prosecution, particularly in handling sexual assault cases. Mr. Cotton's academic background includes a Bachelor of Arts in psychology from the University of Michigan in 1989 and a Juris Doctorate from the University of Detroit in 1994. During his undergraduate studies, he was privileged to publish an original research study in the psychology space.
Throughout his career, Mr. Cotton has received various awards in recognition of his contributions to the industry. Having decided to pursue his passion for law at a young age, he became the first member of his family to establish a successful career as an attorney.
