Under her direction, Pet Supplies Plus' private brands have identified growth opportunities and developed strategies that ensure superior value and quality compared to national brands. For her work, she was honored as the recipient of the Leading Executive in Retail Award in 2023.
Prior to stepping into a role that aligned with her passion for animals, Ms. Weakland served as the global sourcing manager at Cannatron, formerly Ooze Wholesale, from 2021 to 2022. Before her tenure at Cannatron, she worked as a marketing manager at Waltonwood at Twelve Oaks from 2019 to 2021 and as a marketing director at Personal Care Products LLC from 2018 to 2019 following her contributions as a sourcing manager at the company from 2016 to 2018. Beforehand, she gained experience as a product manager at HoMedics LLC from 2008 to 2016, a position in which she worked on private brand products that the company was manufacturing for major companies like Walmart, Walgreens, and CVS, after starting as an administrative assistant at HoMedics Inc. from 2006 to 2008.
Earlier in her career, Ms. Weakland worked as an assistant manager and key holder at Illuminations in 2006 and as an operations coordinator at the Michigan Humane Society in 2005 after starting first as a volunteer and then as an adoption counselor, a position she enjoyed from 2004 to 2005. Before navigating her professional career, she graduated with recognition on the Dean's List, with a Bachelor of Arts in political science and Chinese language and culture from Kalamazoo College in 2003. As a graduating senior, Ms. Weakland was honored with the E. Bruce Baxter Memorial Award for showcasing outstanding development in political science.
As a result of her time at Kalamazoo College, Ms. Weakland remains a proud member of the Kalamazoo College Alumni Association. Overall, her degree proved instrumental in her success, as it provided her not only with skills that culminated in outstanding leadership acumen but also cultural insights that positioned her to collaborate well with the overseas vendors she currently collaborates with. Outside of her collegiate affiliation, Ms. Weakland is actively involved with the American Red Cross, continues to contribute to the Michigan Humane Society, and regularly volunteers at her son's school.
As she continues her tenure with Pet Supplies Plus, Ms. Weakland aims to take on more significant leadership roles within the company. Ultimately, her goal is to contribute to the organization's direction on a larger scale and eventually join the C-suite. Such goals reflect Ms. Weakland's commitment to not only improving the lives of pets but also supporting her colleagues in their work and dedication to this cause.
