After earning a Bachelor of Arts in political science and economics from Washington University in St. Louis in 1968, Mr. Rice earned a JD from Arizona State University's Sandra Day O'Connor College of Law. He completed postgraduate studies in international law at the University of Cambridge in England. Upon completing his studies in law, he began his career as an attorney and quickly discovered how much pain people were experiencing during the legal system's then-prevailing adversary process. Driven to mitigate those difficulties, he pioneered the introduction of mediation, becoming one of three individuals who first brought the practice to the United States. In the ensuing years, Mr. Rice impressed the presiding judge of the domestic relations division in Maricopa County, where he practiced. Through the judge, he began networking, which soon led to the passage of legislation that required mediation before any adversary trial.
Drawing on years of mediation expertise, Mr. Rice started teaching other lawyers, therapists, and professionals how to effectively mediate nearly any situation, leading to the founding of The Win-Win Institute. Between 1980 and 2017, he directed daily operations. He taught various individuals and organizations to creatively, quickly, and effectively craft win-win scenarios for all parties involved in mediation through his world-renowned seminar, "How to Make a Conflict Disappear." During this time, he also served as the Director of the International Mediation Association. A seasoned mediator with years of expertise, he excels as the founder of WinCrafting Academy, which continues The Win-Win Institute's mission. In 2023, Mr. Rice also published "WinCrafting: The Art of Creating Profound Levels of Winning in Every Area of Your Life."
While his career has been filled with highlights, Mr. Rice has most deeply loved the opportunity to put people in touch with the profound levels of creativity that live in them and others and assist them in moving away from painful interactions and experiences and into the joy and satisfaction which result from successful collaborations that produce everyone winning instead of losing. Mr. Rice has also felt deeply grateful for the opportunity to teach thousands of people the breakthrough WinCrafting ideas and steps that lead away from such things as conflict and into a universe in which thriving is the rule in every area of life that matters to them.
