KINGSVILLE, TX, May 29, 2024 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Cynthia Galloway has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Drawing on years of expertise in education and biology, Dr. Galloway excels as a professor at Texas A&M University in Kingsville, through which she has taught a wide range of classes as an assistant, associate, and full professor. Since joining the University in 1990, she has led classes on the advanced biology of forensic science, general biology, non-flowering plants, forensic botany, and plant taxonomy. Over the years, she has also gained valuable expertise in education as an assistant professor at Winston-Salem State University, a visiting assistant professor at the Georgia Institute of Technology, and a researcher for the Hawaiian Sugar Planter's Association in Aiea, Hawaii. In addition to her teaching duties, Dr. Galloway has researched identifying unreported mosses in increased distribution records, as well as the physiology of mosses and desiccation tolerance.

Prior to her illustrious career, Dr. Galloway laid the foundation for her success with a Bachelor of Science in botany from California State Polytechnic in 1978. She then continued to expand her knowledge, earning a Master of Science in biology from her alma mater, a PhD in botany and plant sciences from the University of California, Riverside, and a certification through the Association of College and University Educators. Her thirst for knowledge led her to complete postdoctoral work at the University of Georgia. To stay at the forefront of her field, Dr. Galloway has affiliated herself with esteemed organizations such as the Southern Section of the American Society of Plant Physiology, the American Society of Plant Biologists, the American Bryological and Lichenological Society, and the American Association for the Advancement of Science. Her expertise is also recognized beyond academia, as she has been serving as a STEM adviser at Holy Name Catholic Church since 2021.

Throughout her career, Dr. Galloway has featured her work in journals such as the Texas Journal of Science, Food Science, The Bryologist, and Plant Physiology. Likewise, she has authored abstracts, articles, and papers, including "The effects of ethylene on lateral root initiation in radishes," "Pyrophosphate metabolism and the regulation of glycolysis and gluconeogenesis by fructose 2,6-biphosphate," and "Purification and characterization of phosphoglucomutase from peas." In light of her outstanding achievements, Dr. Galloway won the Distinguished Service Award from the Southern section of the American Society of Plant Physiologists.

While her career has been filled with highlights, Dr. Galloway takes the most pride in witnessing her students' successes. Though hard work and dedication have brought her far in her career, her outstanding achievements can be attributed to her drive, her research and teaching capabilities, the support of her University, and introducing certification programs at the University. Looking ahead, Dr. Galloway intends to continue working on a project that aims to improve the resilience of crop plants during a drought. She will also develop an application that will allow for the transfer of genes from mosses to crop plants, which will enhance their ability to survive harsh conditions.
