With this experience teaching students. Dr. Gardella spent over 20 years as a supervisor of mathematics, mainly in East Brunswick, New Jersey, between 1978 and 1994, developing a broad range of classroom experiences for students from kindergarten to 12th grade. From 2007 to 2010, he also served as a mathematics consultant for the Woodrow Wilson Early College Initiative, guiding curriculum development and teacher training programs aimed at enhancing mathematics instruction at the early college level.

Dr. Gardella's success can be attributed to a solid foundation in his own education. He earned a bachelor's degree in mathematics from Fordham University, a Master of Arts in mathematics education from Lehigh University, a Master of Arts in mathematics from the City University of New York at Brooklyn College, and a Doctor of Education in mathematics education from Rutgers University.
Apart from his extensive education, Dr. Gardella has been active with several professional organizations, including the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics, the Association of Mathematics Teachers of New York State, the Association of Mathematics Teachers of New Jersey and the Association of Mathematics Teachers of New York City. and the Mathematics Association of America, among others. These affiliations have allowed him to stay at the forefront of developments in mathematics education and contribute to the broader educational community through collaboration and knowledge sharing.
Besides his professional endeavors, Dr. Gardella has been influential civically as a former board member on several councils and associations, including the Parish School Council in East Brunswick. His leadership roles also extend to cultural activities, beginning with having served as the chairperson for the University Glee Club while at Fordham.
Dr. Gardella has received awards for his contributions to mathematics education, including the Presidential Award for Excellence in Teaching from Hunter College and induction into the Mathematics Education Hall of Fame by the New York State Association of Mathematics Supervisors.
Dr. Gardella plans to continue teaching at Hunter College and expand the Elementary Mathematics Specialist Program which he co-developed with Dr. Sandra Clarkson from the Department of Mathematics and Statistics. He also plans to continue to provide professional development through the Hunter College Mathematics Center for Learning and Teaching which he created and is the Executive Director, working with Dr. Robert Gyles, the Center's Director.
Overall, he aims to continue to teach at Hunter College, continue to develop his M4 Model further while increasing his writing and research publications in collaboration with his students.
