As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Ms. Tamayo Murray has been a formidable presence in social justice and community development throughout her career. As the retired executive director of the Communities of Concern Commission in Washington since 2023, she led a collective of 24 nonprofit organizations of color to secure state investments in communities of color. This initiative resulted in the creation and preservation of a day center, a farm worker cooperative, a childcare classroom for essential workers, cultural centers, and affordable housing. Ms. Tamayo Murray's advocacy for social justice notably began in high school and continued through her active involvement in civil rights and women's movements during the 1960s.

Shortly after retiring from the nonprofit sector, Ms. Tamayo Murray became the Washington Economic Development Finance Authority (WEDFA) chair. Affiliated with the independent agency for over 20 years as a board member, the WEDFA is based in Seattle and is critical in supporting businesses throughout the state.

During an earlier stage of her career, Ms. Tamayo Murray was the vice president for Catholic Community Services and Catholic Housing Services of Western Washington, which spanned from 2009 to 2020. In this capacity, she championed causes for the poor on behalf of the Catholic church.

Highly educated, Ms. Tamayo Murray earned an undergraduate degree in sociology and psychology and a Master of Social Work from the University of Washington. Her studies at the Harvard Kennedy School further honed her leadership and policy-making skills.

Inspired by her parents, who served the Filipino community after emigrating from the Philippines, Ms. Tamayo Murray learned the importance of community service while coming of age. Apart from her longstanding commitments to the WEDFA, she has been affiliated with several civic and religious organizations that reflect her commitment to service and mentorship. Ms. Tamayo Murray is associated with Saint James Cathedral and the Holy Names Academy and mentors black, indigenous, and people of color leaders in Washington.

Committed to fostering sustainability in leadership efforts, Ms. Tamayo Murray emphasizes the importance of mentoring young leaders, especially young women leaders of color, to ensure they are equipped to carry the torch of social change and community development. Through these efforts, she continues to influence future generations beyond her retirement through active leadership roles.

Ms. Tamayo Murray has been recognized with several awards, including Distinguished Alumna of the Year from Holy Names Academy, Housing Development Consortium of Seattle-King County Award, and a Presidential Award from the Filipino Community of Seattle.
