Dr. Zayas has carved a distinguished career in the computer industry over the last four decades, demonstrating a profound dedication to professional practice and academia. Since embarking on her career journey in 1980, she has navigated through various roles that have honed her expertise and contributed significantly to her field. Since 2023, Dr. Zayas has been instrumental as an assistant professor at Rasmussen University, where she teaches within the School of Technology. Leveraging her extensive experience to cover a broad spectrum of technology subjects including academic program management and curriculum development, she is a respected educator passionate about teaching the next generation.

In addition to lecturing, Dr. Zayas served as a department chair for the School of Technology from 2019 to 2022. Before joining Rasmussen University, Dr. Zayas was an instructor at One Schoolhouse from 2014 to 2021, an online learning institution where she developed a keen understanding of online education, which proved invaluable during the COVID-19 pandemic. She has also lent her expertise by conducting Code.org professional development workshops for teachers interested in incorporating computer science into their classrooms.

Dr. Zayas's tenured career in computer science and education dates back to the 1980s when she was hired as a computer scientist for Computer Sciences Corporation. Over the next 40 years, she progressed into the roles of a high school technology and engineering teacher at a charter school in Hawaii, the owner and web developer for EZ Internet Services, and an online computer science instructor at the Johns Hopkins Center for Talented Youth, where she helped inspire young minds with her passion for technology.

In preparation for her career success, Dr. Zayas earned a Master of Science in Software Engineering from Monmouth University in New Jersey in 1996. She then pursued advanced education in computing technology in education at Nova Southeastern University, achieving a Doctor of Philosophy, all but dissertation status, in 2001. Moreover, Dr. Zayas received credentials as a certified trainer for Code.org and holds several industry technical certifications.

Dr. Zayas is contemplating reducing her workload to spend more time with family and friends. However, she remains passionate about teaching part-time in the future. Drawing a sense of fulfillment from her work, she aims to ensure that she continues to inspire students for as long as possible.
