Prior to joining the state revenue department, he served as a mentor and teacher at HOPE Online Learning Academy Co-Op, where he guided students through their educational journeys. Additionally, Mr. Funk contributed his skills as a contractor at the Colorado Supreme Court and as a team leader and production manager at Payroll 1, where he was named Employee of the Year. His career has also included valuable experiences at First Light Home Care and in a diverse range of volunteer roles at Bethlehem Lutheran Ministries.

Mr. Funk's academic background is equally impressive. He earned a Master of Education from Grand Canyon University in 2019 and a Bachelor of Arts in psychology with a minor in philosophy from Metropolitan State University of Denver in 1991. His educational journey began with coursework at Drake University from 1987 to 1990. Meanwhile, Mr. Funk has enhanced his professional qualifications with certifications in COVID-19 contact tracing, Google Cloud Platform Big Data and Machine Learning Fundamentals, Introduction to American Law, and Defense Against Dark Arts, Google IT Professional Certificate, among others.

Adjacent to his professional life, Mr. Funk is deeply involved in civic activities and creative pursuits. A published author, his literary contributions include "The Streaming Reality," "Lady Justice and the Supreme Court Chess Match," and "A Funk in the House, Is Worth Two in the Bush." He is an active member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church and contributes to youth development as a coach and referee for boys' soccer within the Rush Soccer Program. Mr. Funk has been married for over three decades; he and his wife, a trial lawyer, have two children, Emily and Andrew. When he is not busy with work or community service, Mr. Funk enjoys hobbies such as writing, fly fishing, running marathons and spending time with his dog. In the coming years, he ambitiously plans to complete his fifth marathon and finish writing a novel that has already extended beyond 500 pages. In considering the inspiration for his success, Mr. Funk credits his father, William, who has served as a hero and role model to him throughout his life.
