With an extensive career in medicine, Dr. Marks has established himself as an expert in radiology. As the owner of Red Rose Radiology Inc., he serves as an interventional radiologist specializing in image-guided surgery. His expertise in this innovative field allows for minimally invasive surgical procedures that significantly benefit patient recovery times and outcomes.
From 1966-1969 Dr. Marks attended St. John's Preparatory School (HS), from 1969-1973 Syracuse University (BS – Electrical Engineering Biosystems Cum – Laude), 1973-1975 University of Florida (MS Nuclear Engineering Sciences), 1975-1977 & 1986 M.I.T. (MS – Nuclear Engineering - where he also studied acoustics under Amar Bose), and 1977-1980 Radiotherapy Physicist at Harvard Medical School. From 1980-1984 attended Medical College of Virginia (MCV) (MD), 1984-1986 trained as a resident at the Harvard Joint Program in Nuclear Medicine and from 1986-1990 was a resident in diagnostic radiology at the Baylor College of Medicine. Academic appointments include 1992-1996 Associate Professor of Radiology at George Washington University where he invented the SPECT/CT scanner and patented it as a "Combined Imaging Scanner" U.S. Patent Number 5,391,877 February 21, 1995. Although the SPECT/CT scanner was not immediately practical or affordable it has since become the state of the art, and a staple imaging device, in Nuclear Medicine Departments, not only in the USA, but also all over the world. In 1999 Dr. Marks was an Assistant Professor of Radiology at the University of Tenn. (Memphis) where he was Chief of Radiology at Bowld Hospital and from 2004-2006 he was an Assistant Professor of Radiology at Meharry Medical College (Nashville).
Dr. Marks credits much of his success to his extensive education, training experience, and perseverance, a philosophy he adopted early at St. Johns Preparatory School, as instrumental in developing his profound work ethic and laying the groundwork for his subsequent invention and his current expertise in interventional radiology/image guided surgery. In addition to his academic credentials, Dr. Marks holds multiple state medical licenses and is Board Certified by both the American Board of Nuclear Medicine (1988) and the American Board of Radiology (1990). His numerous professional affiliations reflect his commitment to excellence and continuous learning within his field. He is a member of the Society of Nuclear Medicine and the Radiological Society of North America, as well as many other noted medical societies.
Outside of his professional life Dr. Marks is a true audiophile and has been building Hi Fi and Stereo equipment, especially loudspeakers, since age 15. He has dedicated audiophile following on E-Bay where he can be found under the handle of MagicMarksy. His private time is spent repairing audiophile equipment and building speakers. Michael specializes in repairing items that other people cannot repair. He often says if anyone can repair the item he is not interested, he really only wants to spend his time and effort repairing items that no one else can repair, as it is simply more challenging and rewarding. Dr. Marks is also an avid traveler and has visited all 7 continents and says sailing completely around the world (on a cruise ship) is high on his bucket list.
