Joanne E. Mitchell-McLaren, APRN, BSN, NP, MSN, Honored for Excellence in the Field of Nursing



In honor of the impact she has had as an advocate, she has received numerous accolades, including eight Performance Excellence Awards and inductions into the GSK President's Circle.

    ROYSE CITY, TX, June 06, 2024 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Joanne E. Mitchell-McLaren, APRN, BSN, NP, MSN, has been included in Marquis Who's Who. Drawing from over four decades of excellence in her chosen career path, Ms. Mitchell-McLaren most recently distinguished herself as a patient engagement liaison with GSK plc, an international pharmaceutical and biotechnology company, before her semi-retirement in 2023. In this capacity, she served as a diligent advocate on behalf of patients who live with various diseases, such as lupus and asthma, educating them on the complexities of their conditions and empowering them to live better, healthier lives. Initially joining GSK as a senior executive sales representative and independent nurse in 2000, she earned notable distinction as one of the Top 10% of employees at the company throughout the course of her tenure.

Prior to her endeavors with GSK, Ms. Mitchell-McLaren worked for over a decade as a nurse practitioner, initially working in private practice and at the emergency department of Rochester General Hospital from 1992 to 2000. Throughout this period, she also served in a similar capacity at the Anthony Jordan Health Center between 1994 and 2006, during which time she cared primarily for teenagers and young adults, with a particular emphasis on pregnancy prevention and treating sexually transmitted diseases, including HIV.

Before embarking upon her journey in the field of health care, Ms. Mitchell-McLaren studied at the State University of New York Brockport, where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 1985. Following this accomplishment, she received a Master of Science in Nursing at the University of Rochester School of Nursing in 1992. Extensively qualified in her areas of expertise, she bears additional certification as an advanced practice nurse and a professional patient advocate in life science via Sanford Research. Outside of her formal education, she also learned a great deal from her personal mentor, Dr. Margie Lovett-Scott, whose structured approach to life and patient care inspired Ms. Mitchell-McLaren to achieve great things.

As a commitment to her field, Ms. Mitchell-McLaren has maintained her affiliation with several relevant organizations, including the National Black Nurses Association and the American Nurses Association. Likewise, she is a member of the honorable society of Chi Eta Phi, whose motto, "Service for Humanity," she seeks to embody every day. In addition to her professional memberships, she has also been a prolific volunteer for numerous civic groups, including the Hope Lodge of the American Cancer Society, the Community Food and Outreach Center, and various church initiatives at In Christ New Hope Ministry, including food drives, health presentations, and mental health counseling sessions.

In a career suffused with highlights, Ms. Mitchell-McLaren is particularly proud of the deep-rooted faith and strong family values that have propelled her throughout her journey, The influence of her parents and her relationship with God had a profound impact on her approach to medicine, leading her to impress upon her patients the importance of positivity, perseverance, and education. In honor of the impact she has had as an advocate, she has received numerous accolades, including eight Performance Excellence Awards and inductions into the GSK President's Circle. Likewise, she has earned multiple awards from the National Kidney Foundation and the Lupus Foundation of America.

Outside of her professional endeavors, Ms. Mitchell-McLaren is the loving wife of Mark McLaren, alongside whom she is the proud parent of two children; Ayana and Atiba. When she is not working, she enjoys playing tennis, sitting by the ocean, taking in different cultures, and traveling near and far. Though she has embarked upon a new chapter in retirement, Ms. Mitchell-McLaren remains open to continuing her advocacy work in the health care industry, and aspires to establish her own business catering to the needs of seniors.
