Joining the Jamaica and Flushing Hospital, New York in 2023, Dr. Mufti is a musculoskeletal radiologist and the Director of Musculoskeletal Intervention. Having accepted the opportunity so that he could assist individuals in dire need of medical attention and support but with limited access to health care and resources, he aims to work with the underserved population and make a difference.
In his role, Dr. Mufti interprets images and ensures they are read correctly to render a diagnosis. Dr. Mufti has brought cutting-edge procedures to the radiology intervention service, including kyphoplasties, epidural, joint, and tendon steroid injections, peripheral nerve ablations, and cementoplasties. He also reads dual energy CTs, a new imaging modality that helps detect various medical conditions, including gout and kidney stones. Additionally, Dr. Mufti has extensive experience performing biopsies for tumors located in bone and soft tissue using imaging modalities. He is currently working closely with the community to help educate them about the multiple services that his institution offers.
Looking toward future opportunities, Dr. Mufti aims to help grow a more inclusive radiology department at the hospital, with an increased number of physicians and staff members to serve the community better. He also aspires to educate the community and beyond to share information about the importance of imaging modality procedures and their benefits, especially those that may help relieve pain. Moreover, Dr. Mufti wants to develop a program in his native country of Pakistan to offer his expertise in imaging to help those in need.
He draws inspiration from his parents, practicing physicians in New York before moving back home to Pakistan to become founding members of the Shifa International Hospital in Islamabad, one of Asia's largest health care institutions. He and his wife, Dr. Emaan Alvi, currently pursuing an oncologic surgical pathology fellowship at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, aim to give back to their country one day with their diagnostic and interventional skills.
Besides his clinical work, Dr. Mufti began teaching medicine as an assistant professor at Stony Brook Medicine in 2021. As a seasoned researcher, he has also contributed numerous professional articles to scholarly journals.
Dr. Mufti received a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery from Shifa Tameer-e-Millat University in Pakistan in 2012. He subsequently completed an internship in surgery from Stony Brook Medicine in 2016, a residency in radiology from Stony Brook Medicine in 2020, and a fellowship in musculoskeletal radiology from Stony Brook Medicine in 2021. Dr. Mufti received a medical license in New York and is board certified in diagnostic radiology.
Active in his professional community, Dr. Mufti is a member of the American Medical Association. He enjoys playing golf, pickleball, and traveling in his free time.
