Before his current role, Dr. Osman had a prolific career in academia and consultancy. From 2003 to 2013, he was a professor at the University of Georgia and has served both the World Bank and the National Civil Service Commission as a DEI consultant, facilitating change management. He also maintains the roles of a visiting scholar at Penn State University and a senior political adviser for the United Nations in Somalia.
Dr. Osman is also deeply committed to civic engagement, evident through his involvement in numerous organizations and initiatives on a volunteer basis. Notably, he played a pivotal role as the chair of the Election Committee during Somalia's historic 2012 election, which was instrumental in ending the transitional government and establishing a permanent voting system in the country. In addition to his work in Somalia, he has actively participated in his local community in Owatonna, Minnesota, serving on the boards of the Owatonna School District, the United Way and Habitat for Humanity.

Dr. Osman attributes much of his success to an empathetic counseling approach and a belief in progress over perfection. His philosophy is rooted in his upbringing and education, including a doctorate from Wayne State University earned in 2003, a Master of Public Administration from Central Michigan University earned in 1993 and a bachelor's degree obtained in Somalia before immigrating to the United States.
Dr. Osman is also a member of several organizations that align with his professional and personal interests, including the International Studies Association, the American Political Science Association, and the Owatonna Reading Book Club. He also enjoys participating in debates and discussions in his free time. Looking ahead, Dr. Osman aims to mentor youth and positively impact lives by serving as a role model for guidance and support.
