She then served as the Minister of Interior in 2002, followed by an advisory role in the Ministry of State, Economy, Finance and Industry in 2004 and Chief of Staff for the Union for a Popular Movement Party in 2005. Each position she held afforded Ms. Attias a deeper understanding of the intricacies of government operations and policy-making.
In 2007, Ms. Attias' experience culminated in her becoming the First Lady of France, a position marked by significant diplomatic achievements. During her tenure in this leadership and public-facing role, she was instrumental in negotiating the release of over five Bulgarian nurses and a Palestinian doctor who were detained and condemned to death by the regime of Gaddafi in Libya. Ms. Attias' unwavering commitment to saving their lives serves as a testament to her resolve and diplomatic acumen. For her efforts and aid, she received the highest honor decoration from Bulgaria.
As a result of her background and cosmopolitan professional experience, Ms. Attias speaks French, Spanish, and Italian as well as conversational Portuguese and English. She obtained a master's degree in political science and studied law at Paris-Panthéon-Assas University, which provided her with a solid educational foundation that equipped her with the ability to navigate the complex landscapes of politics, law, and international relations effectively.
