In response, they established an offshore professional liability insurance company in Bermuda—a move that ultimately proved successful. However, this company chose not to insure California physicians, leading to the creation of yet another insurance entity in the Grand Caymans, specifically catering to physicians. Classified as a non-admitted alien carrier, this new company was empowered to offer insurance plans to patients.
During his tenure with this insurance company, Mr. Hansen played a key role in setting up a preferred provider network and a third-party administrator. However, when his hospital decided to exit the insurance business, he faced a critical decision. Opting to leave and acquire the company, he needed an insurance license. To secure one, they leased it from a Minnesota-based company for a five-year period. Unfortunately, subsequent modifications to California's licensing regulations rendered his continued operation impossible.
Undeterred, Mr. Hansen eventually sold the insurance company to another entity. Later, he embarked on a collaborative venture with his son and colleague at Vanderbilt University, proposing an exclusive provider network program. Their joint efforts spanned four years until his colleague lost the contract, prompting their return home. In 2001, Mr. Hansen founded Tall Tree Administrator, which has remained his primary focus ever since.
Beyond his professional achievements, Mr. Hansen has made significant contributions to his community through volunteer work. He dedicated four years to serving in a women's prison through his church and spent 18 months at the church's employment service center. Additionally, he has been recognized as an Outstanding Member within his community, a further testament to his positive impact.
