Ms. Friese has carved a distinguished career in social work, specializing in mental health, substance use disorders, and gambling disorders.

Ms. Friese has carved a distinguished career in social work, specializing in mental health, substance use disorders, and gambling disorders. Since 2023, she has been a social worker in primary and specialty medicine as part of the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs patient-aligned care team, playing a crucial role in a multidisciplinary team dedicated to assisting veterans. Ms. Friese's responsibilities include collaborating with providers, registered nurses, and licensed practical nurses to help veterans navigate the Veteran's Administration (VA) system and access community resources.

Before her work with the VA, Ms. Friese's career trajectory included serving as an independent living skills associate at Southwest Center for Independent Living from 2007 to 2012, where she honed her skills in supporting older, vulnerable, and disabled individuals. Transitioning into addiction and recovery, she worked for Project Turnabout in Granite Falls, Minnesota, where she held various progressive roles, from a family counselor to a manager of treatment services and clinical services to the director of Granite Falls Clinical Services between 2012 and 2023. Ms. Friese's tenure at the organization encompassed managing clinical services, holistic treatment services, mental health, and family programming, highlighting her versatility and leadership.

In addition to her professional roles, Ms. Friese has significantly contributed to raising awareness about gambling disorders through insightful speeches across Minnesota and training sessions in Washington. She has also been involved with the Minnesota Department of Human Services' gambling advisory council.

Ms. Friese's academic background includes a Bachelor of Arts in sociology from Concordia College in 1997 and a Master of Social Work from Minnesota State University in 2013. She has also earned several relevant certifications, including as a licensed alcohol and drug counselor through the Minnesota BBHT in 2016 and as an international certified gambling counselor-I through the National Council on Problem Gambling in 2023.

Ms. Friese's expertise is further recognized through her membership in the National Association of Social Workers. Looking ahead, she aims to transition into a supervisory role within the VA to mentor younger clinicians, demonstrating her ongoing commitment to professional growth and service to others.
