Besides teaching, Mr. Matsushita has been the computer laboratory lead on campus since 2013.
In addition to his coaching duties at Bellevue College, Mr. Matsushita has been instrumental in shaping young athletes' careers as a U.S. Soccer Federation "A" licensed coach and Olympic development coach for Region IV and Washington State with various youth soccer clubs in Washington since 1973. He has also been instrumental as a level III instructor and Child Specialist II at The Summit at Snoqualmie, a local ski resort in Snoqualmie Pass, Washington, further underscoring his commitment to identifying and nurturing talent. Mr. Matsushita notably has received a 50-year pin from the Professional Ski Instructors of America.
Mr. Matsushita's dedication to sports education and coaching began to flourish when he took on the role of teacher, coach, and advisor at Lake Washington School District in Redmond, Washington, from 1979 to 1998. This period was crucial for developing his coaching philosophy and approach to player development. Mr. Matsushita also coached in the ODP program between 1989 and 2010 and, among other roles, was an assistant coaching director for the soccer associations and clubs.
Outside of coaching and teaching, Mr. Matsushita owned Mango's Bar & Grill Inc. from 1998 to 2000, giving him a unique perspective on leadership and team management. He also managed The Soccer Shop Inc. between 2000 and 2007. Earlier in his career, Mr. Matsushita garnered success as a night manager at Elevation 6000 from 1976 to 1979, as a system analyst at Boeing Aerospace Company between 1979 and 1981, and as a sales representative at Container Corporation of America from 1981 to 1983.
Mr. Matsushita earned a Bachelor of Science in mathematics, history, and education from the University of Washington in 1976. He later pursued a Master of Arts in computer education, curriculum, and instruction from City University. Additionally, Mr. Matsushita obtained several certifications, including a coaching-education authorization/endorsement from the USSF and a Level III certification through the Professional Ski Instructors of America, the American Association of Snowboard Instructors.
Mr. Matsushita's expertise is recognized off the field through his membership in the PSIA-AASI and the USSF. In light of his success, he has garnered various accolades, including the Coach of the Year Award from the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (now United Soccer Coaches). Mr. Matsushita was also decorated with the Children's Specialist II Badge from PSIA and was named the Professional Ski Instructors of America Northwest Instructor of the Year in 2012, NW Division.
