Before this role, he was a product development engineer at Ford Motor Company in Dearborn, Michigan, between 2001 and 2003. Mr. Kim began his career as a research and development engineer at General Motors in Warren, Michigan, from 1999 to 2001. These positions allowed him to hone his skills in vehicle structure before transitioning to the aerospace sector.

Mr. Kim has a unique ability to support and assist engineers in aircraft simulation. One of his most notable achievements was developing the Orbital Impact Energy Assessment for NASA's space shuttle heat insulation. This work was pivotal for the Boeing Space Shuttle Launch Support Program with the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), employing simulation tools to visualize the impact energy profile and identify critical impact angles and velocity of projectiles. The precision of this assessment bolstered NASA's confidence in the success of its launches, particularly highlighted by its contribution to the launch in 2005.

Mr. Kim's academic background laid a solid foundation for his professional achievements. He earned a Master of Science in structural engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in 2000. Mr. Kim's time at MIT was marked by significant recognition, including the MIT Mechanical Engineering Thesis Award in 2000 and the MIT Mechanical Department Scholarship from 1997 to 2000. He credits his success to his hard work and problem-solving skills.

As part of his continued commitments to his field, Mr. Kim is a member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers. Beyond his professional endeavors, he is actively involved with civic-minded organizations such as the MIT Alumni Association.
