With a distinguished career spanning over three decades, Dr. Evivie has established herself as a respected educator and leader in the field of business and diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI). Since 2022, she has served as a professor of practice of leadership in DEI at Queens University of Charlotte. Along with bringing a wealth of knowledge and experience to her role, her responsibilities include teaching a variety of courses ranging from management and business communications to graduate level DEI in Organizations and teaching freshmen students through a foundational roadmap course.
Prior to stepping into her current position, Dr. Evivie made significant contributions from 2003 to 2022 at Central Piedmont Community College in Charlotte, North Carolina. For nearly two decades, she held various roles at the college, including business instructor, division director of business and accounting, adjunct business instructor, and professor. Dr. Evivie's journey into academia occurred in conjunction with and was preceded by an extensive career in the corporate sector. She held the title of interim chief executive officer for the Girl Scouts Hornets' Nest Council in 2021, was the chief operating officer at PrimeCare Medical Inc. from 2004 to 2010, and served as the lead accountant at LGE Accounting and Financial Services between 2002 and 2004.
Dr. Evivie's early career also saw her excelling as a senior financial accountant at Royal & Sun Alliance Insurance, a general ledger accountant at Birch & Davis Associates, a tax auditor for the Florida State Department of Revenue, and an accounts payable specialist at Peaches Entertainment Corporation, among other earlier financial positions. Coupled with her career achievements, she earned her Doctorate in Educational Leadership with a community specialization from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte in 2009. Additionally, she holds a Master of Business Administration from the University of Maryland, which she obtained in 1997, and graduated with honors with a Bachelor of Science in accounting from Ahmadu Bello University in Nigeria in 1988.
Most recently, to further enhance her expertise, Dr. Evivie received a Diversity and Inclusion Certificate from Cornell University in 2021 and completed an executive and team coaching certificate in 2024 (Actualized Performance Certified Professional). As a result of her career in academia and her own academic success, she holds membership with the Kappa Delta Pi International Honor Society in Education, the Phi Beta Delta National Honor Society for International Scholars, the Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society, and the National Scholars Honor Society. As a result of her excellence, Dr. Evivie was honored with the Class of 2023 Career Mastered National Women's Leadership Diversity Impact 50 Award and was recognized among the Mecklenburg Times Class of 2021's 50 Most Influential Women.
Over the course of her academic career, Dr. Evivie has authored significant works focusing on the experiences of African international students in the United States, contributing valuable insights into transnational capacity building and the challenges faced by this demographic. In tandem with her professional contributions, she is actively involved in various civic organizations that reflect her commitment to community service and leadership development. Dr. Evivie serves on the board of International House Charlotte and has been an active member of the Maya Angelou Women Who Lead Luncheon Committee for the United Negro College Fund since 2009. Dr. Evivie's dedication to empowering others is further evidenced by her long-time involvement with the Girl Scouts Hornets' Nest Council Board of Directors and her volunteer work with Good Friends Charlotte.
Furthermore, Dr. Evivie is actively participating in Queens University's Charlotte Talent Initiative, a program aimed at improving and reducing the socioeconomic gap prevalent in the Charlotte community. In all she has achieved, she attributes much of her success to the unwavering support and inspiration provided by her late father whose presence and encouragement played a pivotal role in developing her resilience and determination to pursue her dreams. This foundation has been instrumental in her ability to navigate multiple career transitions successfully, including moving from accounting to teaching corporate finance at the graduate level without a formal background in education. Looking ahead, Dr. Evivie intends to continue her work in education while exploring global opportunities that align with her passion for making a difference in the lives of girls/women in developing countries or advancing higher education internationally. Dr. Evivie is married with four children.
